Today, we're making Air Fried Green Bean Fries with Wasabi Ranch Dip!

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that this recipe is basically guilt free. I mean, we're eating our veggies. We're getting a crispy bite without using a ton of oil or a deep fryer. And, we're making our dip at home which means we get to control what we're putting into it. I'd call that a win. How about you?


Side note, I had this moment the other day when I was looking through all my recipes in queue. And, I have a bunch of recipes that start with “air fried”. I sure hope you guys are into it; because I'm air fryer obsessed, and I don't see that stopping any time soon!

Anywho, let's talk green beans. We need fresh green beans for this recipe, and that's basically the only criteria. We're going to wash them, dry them really really well, and cut off any stringy or woody tips. That's it! No precooking or blanching required.


To “batter” our fries, we're going to work with a standard breading station. First, we'll give our green beans a very light coating of flour to help everything stick. We accomplish this by tossing the beans into a sealable baggie, adding the flour, and giving it a good shake (shake and bake style). Then, we'll dip the green beans into a couple eggs that have been beaten really well. And finally, they get coated in a crunchy mixture of panko breadcrumbs, seasoned salt, lots of garlic powder, and grated parm. That's it! Green beans are ready to cook!

To get our green beans nice and crispy, we'll lightly spray the basket of an air fryer with some cooking spray, arrange our fries in a single layer, give the tops a light spritz of cooking spray, and let them crisp for just a few minutes.


Now, it's important to make sure that we're not crowding the air fryer basket, or our green beans wont get crispy. So, you'll have to cook these up in batches to ensure everything has plenty of room for that hot air to circulate around it. But, you can keep your batches warm in an oven set to 200 degrees if you need to.

What are fries without a dip, right? So, we're going to make a spicy wasabi ranch dip to serve alongside our crispy green bean fries. All we need is some sour cream, a handful of dried spices, and a little dollop of spicy wasabi paste. Don't like spicy wasabi? Leave it out! This ranch dip is equally as amazing without that little horseradish kick. And if you want to make the dip a smidge healthier, you could absolutely use plain greek yogurt instead of sour cream. There will just be a little extra tang in your dip.

Once everything is assembled and ready to eat, we have so many flavors hitting us at once. The green beans are fresh and slightly sweet on the inside while being crispy and garlicky on the outside. The dip is cooling and spicy at the same time. And together, they're such a delicious little flavor bomb.


But, it's worth noting that these green bean fries are best served fresh. They don't reheat that well. And, they get a little sad and droopy if they sit for too long. So, wait to make these until right before you're ready to serve them. The dip, however, can be made a few hours or even a couple of days in advance.

Ingredients
For the Green Bean Fries
  • 1 lb green beans, ends trimmed
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • ¼ cup grated parmesan
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • ¼ tsp seasoned salt
  • 1/8 tsp pepper
  • cooking spray
For the Wasabi Ranch Dip
  • ¾ cup sour cream or nonfat plain greek yogurt
  • ¼ tsp dried chives
  • ¼ tsp dried parsley
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp garlic powder
  • ¼ tsp wasabi paste
  • 1/8 tsp dill weed
  • 1/8 tsp onion powder
  • 1/8 tsp pepper
  • 1/8 tsp paprika
Instructions

Make the Wasabi Ranch Dip: To a mixing bowl, add sour cream, chives, parsley, garlic powder, ¼ tsp salt, wasabi paste, dill, onion powder, 1/8 tsp pepper, and paprika. Stir to combine. Set aside in the fridge to chill.
Make the Green Bean Fries: Place green beans in a resealable bag along with the flour. Seal the bag, leaving some air in the bag. Shake the green beans to lightly coat in the flour.
To a shallow bowl, add eggs. Whisk very well for at least 30 seconds straight to completely break up the egg whites. In a separate shallow bowl, combine panko, parmesan, garlic powder, seasoned salt, and pepper. Using tongs, take a few green beans, shake off any excess flour, and coat the green beans in the egg. Then, remove the green beans from the egg, allowing any excess to drip off, and place green beans in the panko mix. Toss in the panko, pressing gently, to coat the green beans. Transfer to a plate. Repeat with remaining green beans.
Preheat the air fryer to 400 degrees. Spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray. Arrange green beans in a single layer, making sure no beans overlap. Lightly spritz the top of the green beans with cooking spray. Cook for 5 minutes, gently toss the green beans, and cook an additional 2 minutes until the green beans are lightly golden. Repeat with remaining batches, as necessary.
To serve, transfer green bean fries to a serving tray. Serve with wasabi ranch dip. Enjoy!
Tips
  • These green bean fries are best served hot and fresh.
  • If you don't like wasabi, leave it out! This ranch dip is equally as yummy on its own.

    I have read numerous times not to use non stick sprays in your air frier because it will ruin it.

    I've given this a 5 star rating as they sound absolutely delicious !!! However, I eat in the Keto model, so flour and panko do not comply with a low carb count. Any suggestions for transforming this to something I can enjoy? I am thinking almond flour instead of wheat flour and maybe crushed pork rinds instead of panko. I don't own an air fryer so cooking in a 400 degree oven maybe???

      I would try almond flour in place of flour, and pork rinds for bread crumbs.
