Take that plain old turkey burger to the next level with these Cream-Cheese-Stuffed Spinach Turkey Burgers! Simple, delicious and juicy patties with a creamy cheesy center and a veggie boost too!

For some reason Turkey burgers have such a bad rep for being tasteless or even brick-like. I find them quite good to be honest, but for those of you who refuse, but this recipe is here to fix that.

Now the usual is a spinach turkey feta burger, but I didn’t have any feta on hand, so I decided to go for cream cheese instead, and stuff it on the inside instead of mixing it with the meat.

Definitely worked out!

Ingredients

  • 1 lb Ground Turkey Breast (454g)
  • 6 cups Spinach, Fresh (180g)
  • 2 Tbsp Onion, Finely Chopped (20g)
  • 2 tsp Garlic, Minced (2-3 cloves)
  • 1 tsp Cumin
  • ½ tsp Oregano
  • ½ tsp Salt
  • ¼ tsp Black Pepper
  • 3oz Cream Cheese, Reduced Fat (85g, about 6 Tbsp)
  • Cooking spray or Olive Oil for greasing
Instructions
Prepare Spinach:
Heat a large saucepan over medium and cook spinach until completely wilted, about 3-4 minutes.
Allow to cool, then squeeze out all the water using paper towels. (Make sure you get as much out as possible).
Chop into small chunks.
Make patties:
In a large bowl combine turkey, spinach, onion, garlic, spices and salt and mix well until uniform.
Divide the mixture into 10 parts.
Line a 1-cup measuring cup with plastic wrap, add a portion of the burger mix and press down to pack. Lift out of cup with lining edge, and transfer to clean work surface. OR Use slightly wet hands and and shape into ½” thick patties.
Divide cream cheese into 5 parts, place each on a patty and flatten down.
Cover each cheese-topped patty with an empty one and press town to shape.
Cook:
Place on a lightly greased baking sheet and bake at 350°F for 20 minutes. OR On a greased non-stick skillet on medium low for about 7-8 minutes each side (about 15 minutes total). OR On a greased grill gate over medium for about 10-12 minutes. Internal temperature of meat should be about 165°F when cooked.
Assemble burgers placing spinach, patty and toppings. Enjoy
Tips
  • Using leaner meat prevents patties from shrinking when cooking.
  • Make sure you oil the pan or grill to prevent the patty from sticking to the surface (this is likely since the meat is so lean).
  • When cooking patties, don’t let the skillet get too hot, or the outside will cook and burn before the meat is cooked through.
  • These can also be made in air fryer: Lightly coat basket with cooking spray, place patties on and cook at 350°F for 12 minutes, flipping halfway through.
