What's your favourite oatmeal combination? I love pairing together bananas and cocoa powder! It's the perfect mix of flavour and sweetness in one big, warm bowl of goodness. I like to normally use steel-cut oats for their nutritional value, but to keep this recipe short and simple I chose to use quick oats! However, feel free to use the type of oats that you normally do, but be sure to watch out for the time needed to cook. Lastly, the most important part is the toppings! I love to add fresh fruits, nut butter and/or chopped nuts on top to give the oatmeal bowl some extra texture. Check out the recipe below!
Chocolate Banana Oats
Recipe details
Ingredients
- 1.5 cups water
- 1/2 cup rolled oats
- 1 mashed banana (ripe works best)
- 1 tbsp cocoa powder
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- Dash of cinnamon
- 1 tsp maple syrup (optional)
Instructions
- Bring water to a boil in a saucepan and stir in the oats.
- Using a sifter, sift in the cocoa powder to help avoid chunks of cocoa from forming.
- Stir in all remaining ingredients and mix for about 2-5 minutes or until the oatmeal is ready. Add in more maple syrup if your bananas were not ripe for a sweeter taste. Enjoy!

Can you reduce the amount of cocoa to make this with individual instant oatmeal packets?
