White Pomfret Fish Fry
Tawa Fry Crispy Pomfret,a lip smacking Fish Fry which is tender from inside & crispy from outside. It is a perfect starter or a side dish for your meals. It is easy to make, just marinate it with the masala and fry it on the tawa and you have your delicious fish ready.
Pomfret Fish fry is my husband and daughter ultimate comfort food. A simple dal or tomato rasam and fish fry is the kind of food that make them both happy. My daughter loves fish, so whenever I'm frying fish for her, I always prefer to use less spices for her. And my husband wanted a spicy one so accordingly I try to balance the spice level to make both happy 😊
Pomfret masala fry is a white pomfret fry recipe in which pomfret fish is marinated with spices, coated with rice flour or semolina and is shallow fried on tava or griddle. This Indian style fish fry is an easy masala fried fish recipe and can be served as an appetizer.

Ingredients
- 2 Pomfret fish, medium sized
- 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric powder (Haldi)
- 1 tbsp ginger garlic paste
- 1 tsp Black pepper powder
- 1 tsp Lemon juice
- 2 tbsp Hung Curd
- 1 tbsp Coriander Leaves , finely chopped
- 1 tsp Red Chilli powder
- 1/4 tsp garam masala powder
- 2 tbsp oil/Butter
- Salt as per taste
Instructions
For Preparation Fish
- Clean the fish thoroughly under running water.
- Pat dry with a kitchen towel and make incisions on both side of the pomfrets and place on a plate.
- Sprinkle salt, add 1/2 teaspoon chilli powder, turmeric powder and drizzle 1 tbsp lemon juice and rub well on both sides. Set aside for 5 to 10 minutes.
For the Fish Fry Masala
- In another bowl, combine hung Curd, red chili powder, black pepper powder, garam masala powder, ginger & garlic paste, lemon juice, 1 tsp oil and salt. Mix this well to make a thick masala paste.
- Apply the spice paste in a thin layer over the entire fish and inside the slits. Set it aside and let it marinate for 1 hour.
For Fish Fry
- Heat some butter or Oil on a non-stick tawa for 5 minutes on medium flame.
- Lightly dust the marinated fish with semolina to give a crispy coating.
- Place the marinated pomfrets and shallow fry for 10 minutes on each side or till the fish is cooked and evenly done on both sides.
- Remove from pan and place the fried fish on a kitchen tissue to absorb all the excess oil.
- Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and
- Serve hot with dal and steamed rice.
Tips
- Make sure that you always use fresh fish for frying.
- After cleaning the fish, pat it dry with a kitchen towel to remove all the extra water, as it help the masala to coat the fish well.
- Light coating with semolina gives the fish a crispy coating. Bread crumbs can be a substitute for semolina.
- Serve this delicacy with your favorite dal (lentils) and steamed rice.
