Lemon Popcorn

I always have fond childhood memories of making popcorn with my family, it was always so fun gathering in in the kitchen anticipating the sound of the kernels popping.

My mom had an old giant pot that she would always use to pop huge batches of popcorn in, and although her method was always consistent she would often come up with various different topping combinations for us to enjoy. One of my absolute favorites was when she made lemon popcorn. It was such an unexpected combination that we all loved, and the bowl never lasted long.

When my mom made her version of lemon popcorn she would use butter, the lemon juice as well as some salt.

The other day, my own family was about to enjoy a movie and I thought about how good a bowl of this lemon popcorn would be. I decided to try a little experiment to switch things up, and oh my goodness was it ever good!

This is now my favorite way to make popcorn and my new spin on this old family favorite. We can't wait for our next movie night!

Begin by popping a fresh batch of popcorn. I would not recommend the microwave variety for this as it would completely alter the taste of this recipe, opt for plain kernels popped in an air popper or pot.

Top the popcorn with melted butter and season with salt to taste. The popcorn is good enough to eat at this point, and already looks so delicious!

To take this popcorn over the top, garnish with the zest of 1/2 a lemon, and a pinch of oregano. You don't want to overpower the popcorn with lemon flavor and even just this small amount will have a great impact on the overall flavor.

I found that using the lemon zest instead of the juice gave the popcorn a great lemony flavor that was almost more on the sweet side rather than the tart sour flavor you would normally expect.

This popcorn is seriously so good and perfect for any movie night, snack time or gathering!

Enjoy!

You must be a slow mover. I think it’s a great concept to do lemon zest. She’s thinking outside the box. I think I’d put the zest in w the butter to infuse it. But either way if your a lemon lover it should be up your ally and yumminess in ten minutes.
