A Creamy Green Breakfast Smoothie With Bananas, Avocados, Spinach, and Coconut Milk!

Our family loves to make breakfast smoothies on a regular basis. This banana avocado green smoothie has quickly become one of our favorite go-to breakfast smoothies. The bananas and avocados create a perfectly creamy smoothie. And you’d never know that this smoothie is also packed full of nutritious spinach. Even our picky 6-year-old loves this smoothie!

Every January for the past four years, my husband and I like to start the year with a Whole30 refresh. Whole30 involves the elimination of both dairy and wheat from our diet. This really forces us to alter our breakfast habits. No pancakes, gluten-free muffins, etc for 30 days! We tend to find ourselves eating lots of eggs for breakfast.

Breakfast Smoothie | An Alternative To Breakfast Eggs

This time on Whole30, we decided that we needed a healthy breakfast alternative to eggs. We make smoothies several times a week and also our Overnight Chia Breakfast Bowls. Normally we use any leftover frozen fruit from our summer harvest and mix with coconut milk and water. This time we decided we wanted to make a healthier breakfast smoothie.

Experimenting With Green Smoothie Recipes

We started experimenting with different green smoothie options. On a recent shopping trip to Costco, we found frozen, diced avocados! With these avocados, we decided to try adding frozen avocados to our smoothies! The result was a delicious and creamy smoothie!

A Creamy Banana Avocado Green Breakfast Smoothie

One morning we came up with this banana avocado green smoothie recipe. It quickly became a hit in our family! We usually start our smoothie recipes with a banana base to create a creamy texture. This time we decided to also add the avocado to the bananas. Next we added 3 pitted dates to slightly sweeten the smoothie.

Then we added 1 tbsp ground chia seed to the blend. Chia seeds add fiber, antioxidants, minerals, and heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids to this green smoothie recipe.

Next, we added one cup of packed fresh spinach to the blend. Then we poured in 1 cup of unsweetened coconut milk and 2 cups coconut water. At this point we blended the smoothie together until it was nice and creamy.

To thicken the smoothie up slightly, we added 1 cup crushed ice. This helped chill the smoothie and give it the perfect thickness.

Even our 6 year old daughter gave this smoothie two thumbs up!

We’ve since been making this banana avocado green smoothie on a regular basis. It’s not too sweet, and yet it’s a delicious morning treat!
