The name says it all: the only ingredients you need is ground cinnamon and a few barely-ripe bananas. That's it! In under 15 minutes, you'll have a snack that tastes like bite-sized pieces of banana bread that are delicious enough to make week after week!

You're going to love these cinnamon bananas because:

  • No sugar is necessary! The bananas offer a caramelized sweetness that is perfect without added sweetener. If you really have a sweet tooth, though, you are welcome to experiment with some organic cane sugar or Stevia.
  • No added oil. Many air fryer recipes call for a neutral oil, even when it's just a mist. There's no need for any with these bananas. They achieve the ideal texture in the air fryer.
  • Fun finger food. The banana pieces are easy for kids (and adults) to grab for an easy snack.
  • Don't worry about flipping. Although many air fryer fruits and vegetables call for shaking, rotating, or flipping halfway through cooking, these will achieve the right consistency on their own.
  • Parchment paper is optional. If you preheat your air fryer, add the parchment paper after preheat, or weigh it down during preheat so it doesn't fly up into the heating coils of the air fryer. Bottom line: Read your air fryer instruction manual and follow it! I didn't use any parchment paper in this recipe, and the banana pieces barely stuck to the fryer.

The next time you have a banana and some cinnamon handy, give this recipe a try!

Ingredients

  • 2 medium-to-large bananas
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
Instructions

Peel and slice the bananas into 3/4-inch thick pieces. Try to achieve a uniform consistency, if possible.
Add the ground cinnamon to a small bowl. Using your fingers, lightly coat the banana slices in cinnamon. The cinnamon coating is best when it creates a thin layer and slightly inconsistent coverage. If cinnamon is falling off the banana pieces, tap it until the excess is removed.
Preheat the air fryer to 380ºF. When heated, add the banana pieces, being careful not to allow them touch.
Air fry for 9 minutes. Use tongs to gently remove the slices and enjoy immediately.
Tips
  • Leave the overripe bananas for your favorite banana bread recipe. The banana pieces soften when they cook, so need to start with some structure.

I always buy my bananas a little green so they last a while, and love ANYTHING cinnamon and LOVE my air fryer, so I'm going to get some bananas tomorrow to try this! Thx for sharing!

That's wonderful, Kim! I can't wait to hear how they turn out for you! (I'm 100% with you when it comes to both cinnamon and air frying...it's so hard to go wrong. 😉) Enjoy!

Can I use cold banana’s for this recipe?

    • Melanie Lorick Melanie Lorick on Jun 05, 2022

Hi, Sharon! Are you planning to use bananas from the refrigerator or do you have frozen pieces? Some of the cold temperature will moderate when you take a few minutes to cover them in cinnamon, but I would just be prepared to sample a piece when you are done air frying to see if they need a little more time. If the bananas are older, they will struggle to maintain their shape - but will still have flavor. Let me know how they turn out for you! 😃
