How to make an easy salted caramel sauce recipe. Use this on ice cream, in coffee, or to make desserts.
I used my Instant Pot to make my salted caramel sauce. You can use the stove top, and I have both directions in my homemade caramel sauce recipe post.
This salted caramel can't be canned, but it lasts for up to 3 weeks in the fridge. It can also freeze for up to 3 months. If you can't use it all, freeze it for later.
I like adding it to my coffee, but it's also great for adding to ice cream or other desserts.

Ingredients
- 1/3 cup water
- 1 + 1/4 cup sugar
- ½ cup double (heavy) cream
- 6 tsp unsalted butter
- Pinch sea salt
Instructions
Instant Pot Directions
- Add sugar and water to the Instant Pot. Use the sauté function on high for 10 to 15 minutes until the syrup reaches 302 degrees Fahrenheit or 150 degrees Celsius with a candy thermometer.
- When it reaches temperature, turn off the Instant Pot. Add the heavy cream to the caramel and whisk until combined.
- Add the unsalted butter and sea salt while whisking.
- Pour your salted caramel topping into a jar. Store in the fridge for up to three weeks.
Stove Top Directions
- Combine the sugar and water in a medium sized pan and stir to combine. Cook over medium heat without stirring for about 5 to 7 minutes or until it reaches 302 degrees Fahrenheit or 150 degrees Celsius.
- Reduce the heat to low and add the heavy cream. Remove from heat and add the butter and sea salt. Stir well and pour into a jar. Store in the fridge for up to three weeks.
