One-bowl Chocolate Mousse

4 servings
2 hr

The traditional french-style chocolate mousse is often a rigorous process- from whipping egg whites and folding the batter gently in order to preserve the air bubbles. Butttt, I don't do rigorous processes and came up with a 10x easier way of making something super close to the real deal. One bowl? Only 6 ingredients? So basically I'm telling you that this is the ultra perfect dessert to make on a Saturday night. If you can whip cream, you can make this like a pro with no issues. Its really that easy + its INSANELY good. Imagine rich chocolate softness melting in your mouth and silky whipped cream. Match made in heaven!!!! Happy making :)

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream, chilled
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 4 oz. fine quality semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar
  • Optional: Whipped Cream for topping
  • Optional: Chocolate shavings for topping
Instructions

In a microwave safe bowl, add chopped semi-sweet chocolate, butter, and granulated sugar. Microwave for 30-second intervals, mixing between each period until melted and is free of most lumps. Allow to cool slightly.
In a chilled mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream until frothy and thickened.
Sift in cocoa powder and beat the heavy cream until soft beaks begin to form.
Pour in the melted chocolate mixture (make sure it is not too hot) and add the vanilla extract. Whip until stiff peaks begin to form. Spoon into a piping bag and transfer into serving cup or bowl. Refrigerate for at least two hours before serving.
Top with whipped cream and chocolate shavings
Tips
  • Make sure not to over-mix the whipped cream or it can turn very lumpy
