HOW TO MAKE A WALKING DIRT DESSERT

The steps to make these are just to simple, which is just another reason that I'm just obsessed over it.

For your convenience, I've narrowed the directions down to just 4 easy steps.

  1. Start by stirring the pudding mix and milk together. Allow the pudding to set for about four minutes.
  2. Next, gently crush the individual bags of Oreo cookies. Do this by cutting the tops of each bag and fold/flip the edges over.
  3. Then, spoon the pudding into each individual cookie bag.
  4. As a final touch, add a few gummy worms to each bag and follow by topping with some whipped topping.

Still have questions? I totally have your back. Here are some common questions your might have.

CAN THIS BE MADE WITHOUT THE INDIVIDUAL BAGS OF OREOS?

You can make this with crushed Oreos in a bowl if you don't have the bags of mini Oreos.

CAN THIS BE MADE WITH CUPS OF PREMADE PUDDING?

Yes, that's a great shortcut to making this dessert quicker.

CAN THESE BE MADE UP AHEAD OF TIME?

You can premake the chocolate pudding, but I wouldn't assemble them until you're ready to serve or the Oreos become mushy.

CAN I MAKE THIS WITH DIFFERENT FLAVORS OF PUDDING?

Yes, you can change the flavor of pudding to your taste. Chocolate pudding is traditionally used in this desert because it's the same color as dirt.

CAN I USE REGULAR WHIP CREAM INSTEAD OF COOL WHIP?

If you use canned whipped cream, it tends to start to melt after sitting for a few minutes but can still be used. The Cool Whip is just a little more sturdy.

Yes, one can use whipped cream - without it 'melting'. Chilled mixing bowl and chilled beaters will aid you in creating a god structure to whipped cream. A significantly healthier option to 'Cool Whip' as it is a natural product; unlike the chemical filled 'Cool Whip'.

    • Two additional options.

      1. Add a teaspoon of cornstarch for every cup of whipping cream. Can add a slightly gritty texture. If not an issue with texture, an easy remedy.

      2. Cream of tartar. Used when making meringue and adds a tiny tang to the whipped cream.

Both options will give "from scratch" whipped cream a stiffer end product that won't melt the minute it is added to a dessert or beverage.

Or if you want to make it easy on yourself, just put out a few cans of a quality store bought whipped cream and let everyone help themselves. Just don't expect to have any leftover cans. 😁. That stuff is a party in itself. Turns everyone silly. And everybody has a good laugh. That's the purpose of a party!
