Easy Breakfast Sausage Crescent Rolls For The Holidays

Most years, we travel to see family for the holidays. Which means Christmas morning resembles something like the scene out of Home Alone when Kevin’s family realizes they’ve overslept. Can you picture it?

Okay…so maybe that’s a bit dramatic.

We certainly aren’t rushing to catch a plane to Paris. But more bodies equal more chaos. And with a lot of hungry mouths to feed, easy, no-fuss foods are a must.

If you’re looking for a simple recipe that the whole family will love, these savory sausage crescent rolls are hearty enough to serve for breakfast or as an appetizer for a holiday brunch.

The recipe makes 16 crescent rolls, but can easily be doubled (or even tripled) to feed a large crowd.

Ingredients for Breakfast Sausage Crescent Rolls

  • 2 cans 8-count crescent rolls
  • 16 fully-cooked sausage links
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • everything bagel seasoning
  • maple syrup for dipping (optional)

How To Prepare Holiday Breakfast Sausage Crescent Rolls

First, preheat your oven to 375℉ and lightly spray two baking sheets with non-stick cooking spray.

Then, while your oven warms up, prepare the sausage links. I used Jimmy Dean heat ‘n serve precooked original-flavored sausage links, but any brand will work.

Heat the sausages according to the directions on the package. Once they are hot, blot off any excess grease. Let the sausage links cool for a few minutes before you handle them and wrap them in the crescent roll dough.

Next, separate the crescent roll dough into triangles. Place one sausage link on each triangle. Then, start from the tip of the triangle, and wrap the dough around the sausage link.

Repeat this step until each sausage link is wrapped in dough. Use a basting brush to gently brush melted butter on top of each crescent roll and sprinkle with everything bagel seasoning.

Bake the breakfast sausage crescent rolls for 12-15 minutes; or until the crescents are golden brown. Let them cool for 3-5 minutes on the pan, and then plate and serve while warm.

I highly suggest dipping them in maple syrup. The savory and sweet combination takes these holiday breakfast sausage crescent rolls over the top! But if you prefer to skip the syrup, they’re just as delicious without it.

These are on our menu, not just for holidays, but ie if we have company, etc., especially since I can roll 'em up the night before and pop 'em in a preheated oven in the morning! IDK the length of your sausage links, but we use Brown-n-Serve frozen sausages, thawed; if I used an entire crescent roll on one of those it'd be lost in all the bread, so I lay out the rectangle of dough, cut the individual crescents into triangles (rather than pull apart, where they can become misshapen), and cut the triangles in half. It's just about the perfect amount of dough without being too "bread-y" and, when serving company, the tube of crescent rolls goes 2x as far!! :)

Thanks for bringing to light a family favorite - never thought about trying it with "everything bagel" seasoning - I'm thinking that may have to be a "thing!!" Though, this household uses fat-free cooking spray for everything; a spritz with an olive-oil cooking spray will save you hundreds of calories over butter, just as a suggestion!!! (My hubbie had a widowmaker several years ago, and all recipes have been modified since then!!). Thanks again for sharing - folks, even if you're not a maple syrup fan, these are delish!!! They're even delish with turkey Brown'n'Serve sausages!!! ~Chrissie

I like your thinking about the fat free. Thank you for sharing.
