How to make an easy apple butter recipe in a slow cooker. This starts with applesauce and has spices, so it's easy to make in about 6 hours.

I used my home canned applesauce, but you can use one from the store. Just make sure you get unsweetened applesauce because your apple butter will be too sweet. You can also use premade apple pie spice if you want to.

I used white sugar and brown sugar, but you can use liquid stevia or monk fruit to cut back on the sugar.

This apple butter recipe is safe for canning or freezing. It makes quite a bit, so you'll have a lot left over. You can also store it in the fridge, but it only lasts about 3 months. I have some tips and more information on my apple butter recipe from applesauce post.

Ingredients

  • 8 cups unsweetened applesauce
  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • 4 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 2 tsp ground allspice
  • 2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 tsp ground cloves
Instructions

Pour the applesauce, brown sugar, white sugar, and spices into a Crock Pot slow cooker. Stir well to combine.
Cook uncovered on high for at least 6 hours. Stir it every hour or so. If it gets too hot around the edges, turn it to low or medium.
When it's done cooking, let it cool completely and store in the fridge or use freezer containers to put it in the freezer.
If you are canning this apple butter, ladle hot apple butter into a hot jar. Leave a 1/4 inch headspace. Remove air bubbles and wipe the rim of the jar. Add a lid and ring fingertip tight. Process in a water bath for 15 minutes or adjust for your altitude. Turn off the heat, remove the canner lid, and let sit for 5 minutes. Then remove jars and let cool for a day. Check the seal. Refrigerate any jars that did not seal.

I am going to try this recipe. My husband loves apple butter, but we can usually only find large jars at the grocery store. The big jars don't get used up quickly enough because I hardly ever eat any of it. I will try making my own and freezing it so I can freeze amounts appropriate for him.
