How to make a small batch of apple butter with cinnamon Red Hot candies. This gives the apple butter a fun and different flavor.
You can make Red Hot apple butter in an Instant Pot or in a slow cooker, and I have directions for both on my easy Instant Pot apple butter recipe.
You'll need to use cinnamon red hot candies. I buy them in bulk to save money. These give this easy apple butter a fun cinnamon flavor.
We eat apple butter on toast or biscuits, but you can also put it on pancakes or even glaze meat with it.
Cinnamon Red Hot Apple Butter
Recipe details
Ingredients
- 6 large apples
- 1 tbsp Vanilla extract
- 15.5 ounce bag Red Hots candies
- 1/2 cup Brown Sugar
- 1/2 cup Water
Instructions
Instant Pot Directions
- Peel and core the apples. Slice the apples into 6 slices.
- Add the apples, vanilla extract, red hot candies, brown sugar, and water to the liner of the Instant Pot.
- Set the pressure to high and set a timer for 15 minutes. Let it naturally release for 20 minutes then quick release if needed.
- When the pressure has been released, remove the lid and use an immersion blender to blend until smooth.
- Set the Instant Pot to sauté and bring the easy Instant Pot apple butter to a simmer. Then turn off the Instant Pot and let the apple butter cool. Sauté again if needed to thicken your apple butter in an Instant Pot.
- Let it cool and you can eat it right away. Store in the fridge or in the freezer.
Slow Cooker Directions
- Place all of the ingredients except the vanilla in a low cooker. Cook on low uncovered for 10 hours or high for 5 hours, stirring every hour.
- When it has thickened and turned dark brown, use an immersion blender to blend until smooth.
- Add the vanilla extract and cook for 1-2 more hours or until thick.

What a fun way to spice up some apple butter, and so great for fall!
This was a memory bolt from the past! My granny would take a quart of apple butter and about a half cup of red hots and heat them in a double boiler till the red hots melted, and put some in our oatmeal...SO good! Gotta make some now! 😋
