Red Hot Baked Apples

Are you looking for an easy and delicious side dish? Try Red Hots baked apples. This recipe will quickly become a family favorite recipe.

When I was growing up, my dad made red hots baked apples.

He learned how to make them from his great-aunt who raised my grandmother and was a beloved grandmother to my dad.

This is a super simple side dish that is very tasty.


Ingredients

  • Apples – I used Fuji apples but Golden Delicious, Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, and Rome are other good choices.
  • Red Hots
  • Water – Optional


Peel and slice apples and place in a greased baking dish and top with Red Hots. Neither Mama nor I could remember if Daddy added water to the apples.


The first time I made this dish, I added 1 cup of water and it resulted in apples this a light touch of cinnamon flavor. The second time I made them, I used 1/2 cup of water and the apples were perfect. If you want your apples super hot and cinnamony, use no water.


Bake for 45 minutes at 350 degrees, stirring the dish a few times to make sure the Red Hots melt evenly.

I loved this dish growing up and am glad that I finally made it to enjoy.

Ingredients

  • 6 apples
  • 1 bag of Red Hots candy
  • water
Instructions

Peel and slice apples and add to a greased 9 X 13 (any size will work) baking dish.
Top with Red Hots candy.
For a mild cinnamon flavor add 1 cup of water, for medium cinnamon flavor add 1/2 cup of water. For full-on cinnamon flavor, add no water.
Bake for 45 minutes at 350 degrees, stirring the dish a few times to make sure the Red Hots melt evenly.

      Then are cranberry sauce or sweet potatoes with added sugar and marshmallows, loaded with extra sugar, also desserts?
