This steak sandwich w/ arugula and lemon aioli is about to transform your lunches.

The other day I was dreaming about food (shocker) and this steak sandwich popped into my head and HASN’T LEFT SINCE.

Then, I made it and HOLY MOLY this thing might be the best sandwich ever.

Perfectly savory and sweet and tangy and herby. It’s the real deal people.

It’s pretty simple too! Only a few steps, but they are totally worth it.

In this recipe, I’m assuming 2 sandwiches, so cut in half for one. Either way, you’ll have some extra flank steak. Perfect for fajitas!

Vic Trick: For the steak, I recommend a flank steak. But if you wanna get a fancy, a ribeye, strip, or filet would all be fabulous choices, I just wouldn’t marinade them.

Take your flank steak and marinade it in Vic’s Tricks To…The Most Bombtastic Steak Marinade. It is:

– 1/2 cup of soy sauce

– 1/4 cup of Worcestershire

– 1/4 cup of brown sugar

– 2 tablespoons of ginger

– 4 cloves of smashed garlic

– 1 teaspoon of lemon juice

This is the marinade I use like 98% of the time and is NECESSARY on flank steak, skirt steak, or steak tips.

Marinade the steak for at least 1 hour, but ideally overnight. Then grill or sear the steak until done to a medium rare, usually about 6-7 minutes per side.

Vic Trick: I usually take it off the heat once it hits an internal temp of 130° then let it rest on a cutting board.

For the bread, I like a ciabatta here because it withstands well to the juicy steak. Slice the ciabatta into the sandwich size of your choice and make a compound butter.

Combine 2 tbsp of softened butter, 2 cloves of minced garlic, and a pinch of fresh (or dried) oregano.

Spread onto all pieces of bread and place into a toaster oven or under the broiler until they begin to turn golden and crisp, about 3 mins.

While the bread toasts, make the aioli:

Combine 1/4 cup of mayonnaise, 2 cloves minced garlic, the juice of 1/2 lemon, and a few pinches of salt, pepper, and oregano to taste.

To slice the steak, make one long cut going with the grain (the little lines running along the meat).

From there, you can make thinner slices against the grain to put onto the sandwich.

Vic Trick: It’s super important to cut a flank steak against the grain or else they could be chewy and that makes for a sadddd sandwich!

Now it’s assembly time!

Spread a layer of the aioli onto the bread, add a large bunch of arugula, layer the steak slices on top, and top with another slice of bread, also spread with aioli.

AND THAT’S IT!!!!

You have to try this steak and arugula sandwich because it’s gonna change your dang life! Please leave a rating and a comment!

Happy Eating!

Instructions

Marinate the flank steak in all ingredients listed under “for the steak” for at least 2 hours, but preferably overnight. Then cook the steak to your liking in a cast iron or on the grill. I like mine a medium rare, it takes about 6-7 mins per side on high heat.
Combine softened butter, garlic, and oregano, then spread on each slice of ciabatta bread. Place into a toaster or broiler until they begin to turn golden and crisp, about 3 mins.
While the bread toasts, make the aioli by combining the mayonnaise, garlic, lemon juice, salt, pepper, and oregano.
Slice the steak by cutting once longways, with the grain, then into thinner slices against the grain.
Assemble the sandwich: spread a layer of the aioli onto the bread, add a large bunch of arugula, layer the steak slices on top, and top with another slice of bread, also spread with aioli.
NOW ENJOY YOUR DEEEELISH SANDWICH!!!
