If you have never had sweet apple chicken sausage, run to your local store and grab it now. It is the perfect combination of sweet and savory, AND it is healthy! It comes precooked, so all you have to do is heat it up and you are good to go. SO easy! I love putting it in egg scrambles, pasta, and stir-fry's, but my favorite way to eat it is on homemade pizza. In fact, this is by far my favorite homemade pizza recipe.

I love incorporating colorful vegetables such as peppers, and spinach in the topping to add more nutrients for my family.

I always add a little cheese before the toppings to ensure every piece of pizza has plenty of gooey cheese.

The 16oz package of chicken sausage is plenty of meat to cover a whole large homemade pizza.

Topping the pizza with lots of mozzarella cheese AND feta and/or goat cheese creates a burst of flavor that balances out the sweetness of the chicken sausage.

This pizza hits the spot every single time. I promise you and your family will not be disappointed!

Ingredients

  • 1, 16oz package of store bought pizza dough
  • 1, 14oz jar of pizza sauce
  • 12oz sweet apple chicken sausage, diced (I used Trader Joe's brand)
  • 1 tbsp. olive oil
  • 1 tbsp. minced garlic
  • 1 1/2 cups frozen pepper and onion blend
  • 3 cups raw spinach
  • 1, 16oz package of shredded Mozzarella Cheese (about 4 cups)
  • 1/2 cup feta, goat or mixture of feta and goat cheese
Instructions

Preheat oven to 450 degrees
Roll pizza dough out onto a large floured or greased pizza pan, poke holes in it with a fork, and bake for 10 minutes.
Meanwhile, heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium high heat.
Add frozen pepper/onion blend, and minced garlic, and cook until soft (about 2 minutes)
Add diced chicken sausage and cook, stirring occasionally until browned (about 3-5 minutes)
Add fresh spinach and cook until wilted (about 2 minutes)
Remove skillet from heat
Spread pizza sauce on cooked pizza dough
Top with 1 cup mozzarella cheese, then all of the chicken sausage mixture, then with the remaining mozzarella cheese, and finally with the feta, goat or mixture of feta and goat cheese
Bake for 5-8 minutes or until cheese is bubbly
Top with parmesan cheese if desired and enjoy!
