Asian Air Fryer Salmon

Easy Asian air fryer salmon is marinated in just 5 simple ingredients and finished with a sweet chili glaze. It's a quick dinner recipe that cooks in under 10 minutes!

I cook salmon at least once a week for dinner.

The kids actually love it as well as my husband so it's a win, win all around.

I made this air fryer salmon recipe several times before deciding I needed to do a blog post for it because it's too good not to share.

The salmon gets marinated in a simple Asian marinade then placed in the air fryer.

About 2 minutes before it's done, it gets brushed with sweet chili glaze.

This Asian air fryer salmon is one of my go to weekly dinner recipes because it's quick and easy and amazingly yummy.

I like to serve it with a side of wild rice and oven roasted broccoli.

The air fryer cooks the salmon perfectly, keeping it moist on the inside with slightly crispy, caramelized edges from the glaze.

I'm telling you, this salmon recipe is SO good, and so easy!

If my (currently) picky toddler eats it, I'm pretty sure any one will like it ;).

Asian Air Fryer Salmon Marinade:

  • olive oil
  • fresh ginger
  • brown sugar (or honey)
  • garlic
  • soy sauce (less sodium preferred)
  • lime juice

You'll want to let the salmon marinate for at least 30 minutes or up to 24 hours.

The longer the marinate sits, the more flavor that will get absorbed into the fish, but if you're in a hurry, 30 minutes will still work and be tasty :).

How to make easy air fryer salmon:

  1. Combine marinade ingredients in a small bowl.
  2. Pour on top of salmon in a zip lock bag. Keep refrigerated for at least 30 minutes or up to a day.
  3. Once salmon has marinated, preheat your air fryer for 5 minutes at 380 F.
  4. Place salmon pieces onto hot air fryer basket, skin side down. Close and set your air fryer to 380 F for 5 minutes.
  5. Remove basket and brush each piece of salmon with sweet chili glaze. Place back into air fryer and cook an additional 2-3 minutes or until desired doneness is reached.
How long should you cook salmon in the air fryer?

  • Salmon cooking time will depend on how thick and big your salmon pieces are.
  • To ensure you don't overcook the salmon, I suggest starting out with 4 minutes for salmon fillets less than 1" thick or 6 minutes for salmon pieces over 1" thick.
  • Be sure to account for the 2 extra minutes of cooking time after your brush it with the glaze!
  • To check if your salmon is done, simply use a fork and press done in the middle. If it flakes easily and it's not longer opaque, then it's done!

What temp should I set my air fryer for salmon?

I've tested this recipe several times and found the perfect temperature for my air fryer is 380 F.

You could set it to 400 F, but just adjust your cooking time accordingly.

Tips for making perfectly cooked salmon:

  1. If you enjoy crispy skin on your salmon, be sure to preheat your air fryer for about 5 minutes. This will help create that crispier skin on the salmon.
  2. Try to make sure your salmon pieces are all relatively the salmon size or thickness. This will help to cook them evenly and avoid overcooking.
  3. I always like to set my air fryer a minute or two less than what I think the total cooking time is. This allows me to check the progress of my salmon so I don't overcook it.
  4. Brushing the chili sauce on the last 2-3 minutes gives the salmon those caramelized edges.
Can this air fryer recipe be made into salmon bites?

Yes!

To make this into air fryer salmon bites simply remove the skin on your salmon pieces then cut into 1" cubes or squares.

Follow recipe instructions as mentioned, except adjust your cooking time slightly because the bites will cook faster.

I don't have an air fryer, can I make this recipe in the oven?

Yes, you can adapt this recipe and bake the salmon in the oven.

Preheat your oven to 400 F. Place salmon fillets skin side down on baking sheet or baking dish lined with parchment paper.

Brush with sweet chili glaze and bake for 6-10 minutes or until desired doneness.

is the sweet chili sauce the same as the marinade?

No. I use Frank's Red Hot Sweet Chili Sauce. Find it in almost any supermarket. It's great on many foods.
