Christmas Tree White Chocolate Cranberry Rice Krispie Treats

Inspired by one of our favourites – my white chocolate crackle recipe and a simple Christmas treat to make, these white chocolate and cranberry Christmas tree Rice Krispie treats are a fun way to add some extra festivity to the dessert table.

No need to stress over creating perfect Christmas tree cones from your Rice Bubble mixture. This is a simple make and chop treat, with no fancy cutters required!

How To Make White Chocolate Christmas Trees

You could just as easily enjoy this recipe as a slice any time of year. Instead, to add a touch of festivity to this simple white chocolate treat, all you need to do is cut into triangles once the mixture has set.

Instant Christmas trees!

This recipe is quite similar to white Christmas, with white chocolate and fruit mixed in. I only used cranberries because of the colour. Glace cherries would be a perfect alternative too! Or mix in a variety of fruit and nuts instead.

For decorations, I used cake decorating candy in silver in gold with a mixture of sprinkles, candy balls and stars. Red and green M&Ms would be a great option too!

Make sure you use a sharp knife once your mixture is set. This will make it easier to cut your triangle shapes without breaking them.

Tip: Run your knife under hot water before using it and it will slice through the hard slices easier.

Are Rice Krispies The Same As Rice Bubbles?

Here in Australia, we refer to our puffed rice cereal as Rice Bubbles. And yes, this is the same Kellogs cereal favourite as Rice Krispies cereal. You can just as easily create this recipe with any brand of puffed rice cereal though.

Can I add other fruit or nuts?

Yes, try adding sultanas, other dried fruits or nuts to your Christmas trees for different flavours.

Recipe Alternatives

If you want your Christmas tree treats to be green, add a few drops of green food colouring to your mixture and stir through. This will add some extra fun for the kids if you are making a treat for a school party.

Try different mix-ins too. Red and green M&Ms, festive coloured candy, or icing drizzled over your treats like tinsel. The limit is only as far as your imagination takes you.

For a peppermint flavour, use crushed candy cane pieces or peppermint extract in your Rice Krispie mixture.

If you want to make it really easy, slice it up like a normal slice into squares and serve as a yummy treat all year round!

Ingredients

  • 3 cups puffed rice cereal
  • 350 grams white chocolate melts
  • 3/4 cups desiccated coconut
  • 1/2 cups icing sugar
  • 1/2 cups finely chopped dried cranberries
Instructions

Mix dry ingredients into a large mixing bowl
Melt white chocolate in small batches in a microwave-safe bowl for 30 seconds at a time. Stir and repeat until melted.
Mix white chocolate into dry ingredients and combine.
Pour mixture into a baking paper lined slice tray.
Press mixture firmly into tray. Decorate with candy or dried fruit.
Refrigerate for at least 60 minutes. Once set, use a sharp knife to slice into triangle shapes to form Christmas trees.
Tips
  • I used a flat bottom glass to press my mixture firmly into the baking tray. You could also use another tray, pressing down with the bottom or anything flat. A light spray of cooking oil spray will help prevent sticking.
