Here I show you how to decorate a pre baked cake and how easy it can be for you to make a show stopper that everyone will be wanting some of.

Pre bake your sponges or buy some if you’re short for time. I used 3 8” sponges for this cake.

I cut the tip off of a piping bag and filled it with buttercream. I jammed and piped buttercream on each layer to cover the whole surface.

Once they were stacked I crumb coat with the buttercream by using a spatula to cover the whole cake.

If you put the cake on a turn table it helps to turn the cake as you are covering it. Smooth buttercream the whole way around and then on the top. This dos not have to be too neat.

Once crumb coated you put it in the fridge for 10 minutes.

Now colour the rest of your buttercream with gel colouring of your choice.

Now cut the end off of another piping bad and fill same way as before. Using your turntable to spin the cake, pipe right the way around starting at the bottom of the cake working your way to the top.

Once you’ve covered the whole cake you use the large spatula again and smooth the edges, turning the turn table as you go and scrapping any excess buttercream on spatula back into the bowl.

It will start to look like this when smoothing.

Once the sides are done you smooth the top.

Once smooth you can put in the fridge for 10 minutes. To add an effect on to the side we use a Cake scraper which you can get many designs. You make sure it’s at the bottom of the cake and you gently push it into the side and using the turn table to spin the cake around you scrape the whole way around.

You can go back over any areas that haven’t scraped as much as you’d like. Just remove excess buttercream from scraper as you go.

Your cake should look something like this once you have done it.

Now you can add some sprinkles to the bottom of the cake using your hand. You might like to put a tray underneath to catch all the runaway sprinkles to save on the mess.

once you’ve covered the bottom all the way around you can remove excess sprinkles.

I have added a chocolate drip ganache to mine which I will upload a separate step by step to at a later date. You can now start adding all your selection of sweets and lollies how you would like.

And even a name decoration if you have one or a cake topper.

I have moved my cake onto a decorated board which I will also upload how to do on another post. You can add some sweets to the front of the cake too. Now go show them what you’ve made and be the talk of the party!
