Summer berries are at their peak, which means it's time for some easy and delicious smoothies for breakfast, lunch, a snack...whenever you have a craving! What makes these even more special is they are made healthier with the addition of:

  • plant-based milk (I suggest an unsweetened version)
  • hemp seeds
  • chia seeds
  • vegan protein powder

You won't be able to taste the seeds, but they add a number of great nutrients, including helpful antioxidants.

I love incorporating more plant-based protein into our diet whenever possible, and the vanilla adds a really nice flavor that complements the berries well.

You are welcome to use frozen blackberries and raspberries, which means you can reduce the amount of ice cubes used, or be prepared to thin with a little more plant-based milk.

Enjoy this refreshing treat and visit the blog for more vegan recipes!

Cheers!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup fresh strawberries (approximately 8 ounces)
  • 1 cup unsweetened plant-based milk
  • 3/4 cup fresh blackberries
  • 1 medium-to-large frozen banana
  • 1 tablespoon vegan vanilla protein powder
  • 1/2 tablespoon ground chia seeds (optional)
  • 1/2 tablespoon hemp seeds (optional)
  • 1 1/2 cups ice cubes
Instructions

Remove the strawberry tops. Add the ingredients to the blender and blend until smooth.
If your blender is less powerful (like ours), you might want to blend in stages, blending all ingredients before adding the frozen items at the end.
Adjust the consistency to your liking: add more milk to thin the smoothie, or more ice (or another half of a frozen banana) to thicken.
Tips
  • The chia seeds don't have to be ground.
