Hard to believe that we're still having cold winter temps here in Southern California, but it's true and they're here to stay for just a bit longer.

And I'm still making the best of the season no matter what. There's nothing quite like a steaming mug of hot chocolate to warm up your insides on a cold winter day. But if you want to enjoy this delicious drink to the fullest, you need to know how to make it like a pro.

In this post I am sharing SEVEN different ways to make hot chocolate that will leave you wanting more.

So sit back, relax, and let me show you how it's done!

The Classic Way

The traditional way to make hot chocolate is probably the most popular, and it's easy to see why.

All you need are some simple ingredients: milk, cocoa powder, sugar, and vanilla extract. Combine these ingredients in a saucepan over medium heat and stir until everything is combined. Then bring the mixture to a simmer, careful not to let it boil. Once it's heated through, pour it into your mug and enjoy!

The French Way

If you're feeling fancy, you can make hot chocolate the French way.

Start by heating milk in a saucepan over medium heat. Then add in some dark chocolate chips or a chopped-up chocolate bar. Stir until the chocolate is melted, then remove the pan from the heat and add a dash of vanilla extract. Pour the mixture into your mug and enjoy!

We recommend trying this with a delicious homemade biscuit on the side.

The Mexican Way

If you want to spice things up, try making hot chocolate the Mexican way.

Start by heating milk in a saucepan over medium heat. Add a tablespoon of chilli powder and a pinch of cayenne pepper, then stir until everything is combined. Bring the mixture to a simmer, being careful not to let it boil. Once it's heated through, pour it into your mug and enjoy!

The Nutella Way

If you're a fan of Nutella, you'll love this variation.

Start by heating milk in a saucepan over medium heat. Add a tablespoon of Nutella and a pinch of cinnamon, then stir until everything is combined. Bring the mixture to a simmer, being careful not to let it boil. Once it's heated through, pour it into your mug and enjoy!

The White Chocolate Way

If you're a fan of white chocolate, this variation is for you.

Start by heating milk in a saucepan over medium heat. Next, add some white chocolate chips or a chopped-up white chocolate bar. Stir until the chocolate is melted, then remove the pan from the heat and add a dash of vanilla extract.

Finally, pour the mixture into your mug and enjoy!

The Peanut Butter Way

If you're a fan of peanut butter, this variation is for you.

Start by heating milk in a saucepan over medium heat. Add a tablespoon of peanut butter and a pinch of cinnamon, then stir until everything is combined. Bring the mixture to a simmer, being careful not to let it boil. Once it's heated through, pour it into your mug and enjoy!

The Oatmeal Way

If you're looking for a hot chocolate that will fill you up, try this variation.

Start by cooking oatmeal according to the package directions. Then add some milk, cocoa powder, sugar, and vanilla extract. Stir until everything is combined. Finally, pour the mixture into your mug and enjoy!

Personally ocassionally I love to add a little something extra if needed like Maca powder and Plant protein to my hot chocolate beverage for those extra nutrients that I might've missed for the day. And occasionally I'll add some Lion's Mane for some brain stigma.

So there you have it: seven delicious ways to make hot chocolate.

Which one will you try first?
