Melon Margarita Recipe

Melon Margaritas are an easy twist to the classic margarita. They’re light, refreshing, and only require three ingredients.

Silver tequila, melon liqueur, and fresh lime juice combine to create a lightly sweetened, balanced cocktail. It’s super easy to make and will be a hit at your next happy hour.

While I love making margaritas at home, I’m not always a fan of those served in restaurants or bars. They often use a sub par sweet and sour mix that is overly sweetened. You’ll want to skip the premade margarita mix for this recipe, and use fresh lime juice for the best flavor.

FAQs:

What’s the best tequila to use for making margaritas? You want to look for 100% blue agave tequila for the cleanest taste. Personally, I prefer a silver tequila, but you can also use reposado if you prefer it.

What’s the difference between silver or blanco and gold or reposado tequilas?Blanco tequilas are bottled immediately after they are distilled, while reposados are aged for 2-12 months in oak barrels giving them their distinct color. Silver tequila also has a stronger taste which is perfect for blending with flavors in a margarita.

Ingredients for Midori Melon Margarita:

  • Tequila: I used silver tequila to keep the color bright green.
  • Melon liqueur: Midori is a good choice for melon flavor.
  • Limes: Fresh lime juice balances the sweetness of the Midori.
  • Margarita salt: Optional for a salted rim.
  • Melon balls: Optional for garnish.

Ingredient Tip:

  • Homemade Sour Mix is a great mixer to have on hand in the fridge if you enjoy mixing your own cocktails. It simply combines fresh lemon and lime juices with agave nectar. It’s a little sweet and a little tart, and it’s super refreshing.

How to Mix a Melon Margarita:

  • Prep the glass by running a slice of lime around the rim, then dip in margarita salt.
  • Use a hand juicer to juice a lime.
  • Add the tequila, melon liqueur, and lime juice to a cocktail shaker with ice. Give the margarita a few good shakes to chill the ingredients.
  • Use a strainer, and pour into the prepared glass. Add ice if desired.
  • Optional garnishes: melon balls and lime wheel.
