Do you like Paneer? What’s your favourite paneer dish? My favourite is Matar Paneer (Paneer and peas curry). I love it because of its simplicity and the fact that it can be cooked in a number of ways. I usually cook it in a pressure cooker and add lots of tomatoes.


A small introduction to paneer for those who don’t know about it. Paneer is an Indian cheese. It is very nutritious and quite popular in India. There are a number of ways in which you can eat it. Here I am sharing a simple, quick and easy recipe. You can adjust the spice level according to your taste buds. It tastes amazing with naan, roti or bread.

Ingredients

  • Paneer 200 grams cubed
  • 1 large onion finely chopped
  • 1 1/2 large tomatoes finely chopped
  • 1 tbs ginger garlic paste
  • 1/4 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 inch cinnamon stick
  • 1 black cardamom
  • 1 tbs coriander powder
  • 1/2 tbs cumin powder
  • 1/2 tbs garam masala powder
  • 1/2 tsp kashmiri mirch powder ( or red chilli powder)
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 cup green peas ( fresh or frozen)
  • 1/4 cup cream
Instructions

Shallow fry paneer in a pan and set aside.
Heat oil in a pressure cooker. Add cumin seeds, black cardamom and cinnamon stick.
Add ginger garlic paste. After a minute add onions and salt; cook till they are golden pink.
Stir in tomatoes and cook for 2 mins.
Stir in turmeric powder, kashmiri mirch, coriander and cumin powder. Cook for 2-3 minutes.
Add cream and cook for 2-3 mins.
Stir in peas and paneer. Add two cups water and garam masala.
Secure the lid and close the pressure valve. Cook till two whistles. Let the pressure release by itself.
Serve with your choice of bread or rice.
