Pineapple Jalapeño Margarita
Cheers to a margarita happy hour! We’ve turned up the heat with this delicious Pineapple Jalapeño Margarita.
It’s not too spicy, but this margarita will definitely wake up your taste buds with a finishing bite of jalapeño. Pineapple juice and homemade sour mix temper the spiciness with the sweet and sour flavors.
I love a great margarita, but I don’t love the fact that too many restaurants use crappy store-bought sour mixes to make their margaritas. They’re loaded with extra sugar and preservatives. Once you taste a margarita that uses all fresh ingredients, you’ll never settle for sub par again.
Ready to mix up a Jalapeño Margarita? Whether you’re celebrating Cinco de Mayo, cheering your team on game day, or just hosting happy hour, you and your guests will love this spicy twist on a classic cocktail.
FAQS:
What’s the best tequila to use for making margaritas? You want to look for 100% blue agave tequila for the cleanest taste. Personally, I prefer a silver tequila, but you can also use reposado if you prefer it.
What’s the difference between silver and reposado tequilas?Silver tequilas are bottled immediately after they are distilled, while reposados are aged for 2-12 months in oak barrels giving them their distinct color. Silver tequila also has a stronger taste which is perfect for blending with flavors in a margarita.
INGREDIENTS IN A SPICY PINEAPPLE MARGARITA:
- Pickled jalapeños: Pickled jalapeños are the perfect balance of slightly sweet and spicy.
- Homemade sour mix: It skips all the preservatives and additives leaving you with a perfect balance of sweet and tart.
- Orange liqueur: Use a good quality triple sec or cointreau.
- Tequila: Use either blanco or reposado depending on your taste.
- Pineapple juice: I like to use a pineapple juice that contains no added sugars.
HOW TO PREPARE A JALAPEÑO MARGARITA:
- If adding a salt rim to your glasses, run a lime slice along the rim, then dip in salt. Set aside.
- Add jalapeño slices, jalapeño juice, and pineapple juice to a shaker. Muddle the jalapeño together with the juices.
- Add tequila, orange liqueur, sour mix, and ice. Shake to chill, then pour into two glasses.
SERVING SUGGESTIONS:
- Serve shaken and strained either on the rocks or straight up in a salt rimmed glass. (Salt balances the sweet, sour, and spicy notes of the margarita).
- Garnish with a fresh lime wheel and jalapeño slices, if desired.
