Keto Balsamic Caprese Steak Bites

Your favorite antipasto salad now comes served as a bite-sized low-carb appetizer! And let me tell you, these Keto Caprese Bites will quickly disappear when you serve them to family, friends, guests, … or even if you are just serving them to yourself as a quick light lunch.

We have Italy to thank for a lot of great dishes, recipes, and recipe inspiration, and these Caprese steak bites are no exception. This recipe is simple, easy, and requires only 3 ingredients … not including toothpicks!

The most important element of this dish is the streak. I found that it was really important to choose a tender cut of steak for the beef tips. ButcherBox has some premium cuts like tri-tip, Coulotte, and of course sirloin. You are free to choose what you enjoy best, but the more tender, the better!

BONUS: If you are ever looking to change things up and add another element to the recipe, I recommend topping them off with a black olive!

What Is A Caprese Salad?

Originating from Italy, and more specifically from the island of Capri, a Caprese salad is a simple and elegant salad. The Caprese salad is made up of mozzarella, tomatoes, olive oil, and basil. It can optionally be topped with salt, pepper, and balsamic vinegar.

Ingredients needed to make Keto Balsamic Caprese Steak Bites

Beef Tips: I used 1 lb of beef tips from ButcherBox cut into bite-size pieces. This should produce around 30-40 pieces.

Olive Oil: 1 tablespoon of olive oil.

Tomatoes: About 30-40 of either grape or cherry tomatoes.

Mozzarella: About 15-20 mini mozzarella balls cut in half.

Basil: 30-40 fresh basil leaves.

Balsamic Reduction: This is truly one of the highlights of the dish. To me, Caprese anything is not complete without the balsamic. That said, it’s best to make your own using a low-sugar balsamic vinegar to control the ingredients and keep it as low-carb as possible.

Salt and Pepper: To taste

Long Toothpicks

How To Make Keto Balsamic Caprese Steak Bites

Heat the olive oil: Start out by heating the olive oil in a cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat.

Add: Next, add your beef tips, salt, and pepper to the skillet and cook until the meat reaches your desired doneness. I prefer to leave a little pinkness in the middle for the juiciness and flavor.

Remove: Now remove your beef tips from the skillet and place them on a plate with a paper towel to soak up the grease and cool to room temperature.

Put Together: Once the beef is cooled, grab a toothpick and add 1 tomato, ½ mini mozzarella ball, 1 folded basil leaf and 1 beef tip. Repeat with all of the ingredients, laying the keto balsamic Caprese steak bites onto a serving platter.

Finishing Touches: Drizzle with balsamic reduction and serve!

PRO-TIP: Make sure you cook your beef tips in a large enough cast-iron skillet. This way the meat won’t end up boiling in its own juices. This causes the steak bites to be super tough rather than tender.

Can You Make Keto Balsamic Caprese Steak Bites In Advance?

Yes, you can!

If you’d like, you can assemble the ingredients on the toothpick the night before. Simply store them in an airtight container in the fridge overnight and serve the next day.

When preparing these in advance, I’d leave off the beef tips and the balsamic glaze. Cook the steak before you want to serve and add it once they are cooked.

Once you are ready to serve, that’s when I would top it off with the balsamic reduction.

Can You Store Caprese Steak Bites?

You certainly can store these leftovers… if you have any!

Just keep them in an airtight container and store them in the fridge. They should stay good for about 3-5 days.

What To Serve With Keto Caprese Steak Bites?

These can be refreshing and filling served alone as a light lunch or snack.

If you are serving them as an appetizer you can serve them alongside other appetizers. Really any other appetizer can go with these but I suggest dips with small veggies or crackers. It’s also smart to have variety in your appetizers so everyone can find something they like.

How To Enjoy Keto Balsamic Caprese Steak Bites

Like I mentioned earlier, these Caprese steak bites are so versatile! If you want to eat these as a small, healthy lunch, go for it!

Caprese steak bites are also an amazing snack. If you’re just looking for something quick to snack on, then these are perfect.

Are you hosting friends or family over for dinner? You might just want to think about impressing your guests by serving these as an appetizer.
