I've made veggies with sweet and sour sauce on many occasions, but this time, I decided not to use a store-bought one but to make my own version of it. If you have some sauce left, don’t worry — you can store it in the fridge for a couple days or even use it as a dip with your fries! There are plenty of other benefits of making it at home: you’re sure to know what’s in it, and the ingredients are much cheaper than buying whole bottle in the store. It absolutely doesn’t require a lot of work so I would definitely give it a try if I were you.
Easy Airfryer Sweet and Sour Cauliflower With Homemade Sauce
Recipe details
Ingredients
For the homemade sauce
- 1 cup of pineapple sauce
- 1 cup of ketchup
- 1/2 cup of soy sauce
- 1/6 cup rice vinegar to your taste
- 2 tsp. cornstarch
- 2 tsp. water
For the cauliflower
- salt and pepper
- florets of 1/2 head cauliflower
- 1/3 cup cornstarch
- 2 Tbsp. garlic powder
- olive oil
- basmati rice, sesame seeds, spring onion for serving
Instructions
- Firstly, let´s make the homemade sauce. In a medium sauce pan bring the pineapple juice, ketchup, soy sauce ad vinegar to a boil. Cook for 1-2 minutes. Dissolve the cornstarch in the water. Add to the sauce and using a wire whisk mix it well. Cook for 5-10 minutes until it thickens perfectly. It will thicken when it cools too.
- Cook the cauliflower in salted water for 5-10 minutes until fork-tender. Drain it under cold water.
- Evenly cover the cauliflower with the cornstarch and the garlic powder. Season with salt and pepper.
- Transfer the cauliflower into the basket of the airfryer, drizzle some olive oil all over. Bake it at 200C for 30 minutes or until nice and crispy. I like to mix it every 10 minutes so that it bakes evenly.
- Mix the cauliflower together with the sauce.
- Sprinkle some sesame seeds all over, serve with steamed rice and spring onions.
