The idea of making a traditionally time consuming dish, like spaghetti and meatballs, does not normally appeal to me.
I do not love the fact that I have to stay home for hours, babysitting a bubbling pot, frankly, nor do I have the time.
There's always an errand or carpool calling me, unfortunately, even on a Sunday.
For meals that require that much of my undivided attention, I turn to my crock pot. It's an easy way to cheat and get delicious results.
In some parts of the country, I guess it's called a slow cooker, but either way, most people have one.
I use it for my Pulled Pork recipe
But today's all about meatballs and sauce.
Roll them up...
...and place them raw into the crock pot.
Crockpot Meatballs and Sauce
Recipe details
Ingredients
Meatballs
- 1 pound of ground beef, the leaner the better or you'll end up with a film of fat floating on top
- 1 egg
- 1/2 tsp each of salt and pepper
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp oregano
Sauce
- 1-2 16 oz cans of tomato puree or diced tomatoes, depending on your preference of smooth or chunky sauce
- 1 small can of tomato paste
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp oregano
- 2-3 tablespoons of sugar
- 1 tablespoon of olive oil
Instructions
Meatballs
- Combine all ingredients in bowl, mix together well and form meatballs. Then place them carefully in the bottom of the slow cooker.
Sauce
- Mix all ingredients together in the slow cooker and stir gently, so you don't disturb the meatballs.
Cook
- Cook on high for 4-6 hours, stirring occasionally.
