Easy Campfire Banana Boat Recipe

20 min

We love to go camping. We also love to make fires in the firepit in our backyard. Regardless of where we are, we love to make this delicious and somewhat healthy sweet treat as a snack or a dessert. It is super fun because there are so many different ingredients that can be added to suit the tastes of everyone participating. Personally, I am in it for the chocolate and the peanut butter. This works the best in the coals of a Log Cabin style fire which you can learn how to make with CANDY. Let’s make a campfire banana boat.

Ingredients and Supplies Needed

  • Tinfoil
  • Knife (This one is great for kids to learn how to use a knife.)
  • Bananas
  • Chocolate Chips (These VEGAN ones are great if your diet calls for them.)
  • Marshmallows
  • Peanut Butter
  • Nuts
  • Sprinkles
  • Whipped Cream

Directions to Make Banana Boats

Follow these three super simple steps to prep your banana boats for the campfire cooking.

  1. Cut your banana open like you would a baked potato.
  2. Mush the banana part up without cutting into the peel.
  3. Fill it with chocolate chips, marshmallows and anything else you want to melt.

Next, wrap it in foil. To heat it up and get those yummy ingredients to melt, stick it in the HOT coals of the fire for about 5-10 minutes. It really depends on how hot those coals are. If you are baking in an oven, 10 minutes at 350 degrees works great. When you open the tinfoil the chocolate should be melted.

Add toppings to your banana and eat it while it is warm. There are so many different options for toppings. Of course, whipped cream is a must. You can get it in a can and keep it in the cooler while camping. It is awesome in hot cocoa too. If you are serving this at home, it is fun to put it in a dish and add the toppings. If you are enjoying this at home, you can watch the Banana Boat song on YouTube while you eat it.

A really fun idea is to have these at a slumber party. Create a toppings bar with everything you can think of to go on the bananas. Think of it this way. The banana acts like ice cream and all of the things that you would put on a sundae work on the banana too. That really makes the possibilities endless. There are tons of different syrups, candies, nuts and sprinkles.

How to Make A Fire For Cooking With Kids

I wrote a whole post for the purpose of teaching kids how to make a campfire because I think it is so important. It matters not only to have a heat source to cook the campfire banana boat but also just a great life skill. Check it out here and get the directions and a FREE printable too.
