Virtual school is (mostly) a bummer, but here's a way to brighten your kids' day...a platter of apple nachos drizzled with sweet and salty flavors that everyone loves!

Hi, I'm Cindy. I blog at DIY Beautify where I love sharing projects for the home, including favorite family recipes.

These easy apple nachos make a fantastic after-school snack! They're also pretty amazing any time you're craving something both salty and sweet!

Apple nachos drizzled with sweet caramel, dark chocolate and topped with chopped salty nuts...a delicious and nutritious snack!

You can really get creative with this snack and use any flavors that your family loves! Things like pretzels, marshmallows, nut butter, etc. We love a sweet and salty mix so I used caramel bits, dark sugar-free chocolate chips and roasted and salted nuts.

Fill a bowl with cold water and add 2 Tbs lemon juice. Let sliced apples sit in this water for a few minutes, this will prevent them from browning.

Lay apple slices on a clean kitchen towel to soak up all the water.

Arrange apple slices on a charcuterie board, cutting board or whatever you have in your house. Making a pleasing pattern with the apples makes this sweet and salty treat even more visually appealing!

Put the caramels in a glass bowl and add 1-2 tsp water. Melt in microwave at 80% power for 30-45 seconds, stirring in between. Continue until caramel is melted and slowly drizzle over apples. I melt the chocolate chips in the microwave. To make them a little runnier for drizzling, you can add a little butter or cream.

Chop nuts into small pieces and sprinkle over the caramel and chocolate.

Then all that's left is to call the kids and watch this easy snack disappear!

Sweet and salty apple nachos are perfect for any time of the year and any occasion!

Ingredients
Ingredients
  • 2-3 apples, washed and sliced into wedges
  • 2 tsp fresh lemon
  • Kraft caramel bits
  • chocolate chips
  • favorite nuts (I used salted peanuts and roasted and salted almonds)
Instructions
Prep apples
Wash and dry apples. Cut into small wedges, removing core. Add to bowl of water with lemon to keep them from browning.
Once all apples are cut and have been in the lemon water, drain apples and pat dry with clean dish towel.
Arrange apples
Arrange apples in an attractive way on a platter or charcuterie board. I alternated red and green apples for a pleasing display.
Melt caramels
Add caramels to a glass bowl and add 1-2 tsp water (I used only half the bag). Melt in microwave at 80% power for 30-45 seconds until caramels are melted.
Drizzle caramel sauce over apples.
Melt chocolate
Use any chocolate chips you like, I prefer a dark chip for the richer flavor. Add 1/2 cup chocolate chips to glass bowl and microwave at 80% power for 30 seconds. Stir. If not melted, microwave for 15 additional seconds, and repeat until chips are mostly melted.
To make chocolate easier to drizzle, add a little cream. Stir well and drizzle over apples.
Nuts
Chop nuts into small pieces. Sprinkle them over the warm caramel and chocolate so they stick.
Tips
  • You really can't go wrong with this recipe! Come up with your own toppings like mini marshmallows, chocolate and crushed graham crackers to make S'mores Nachos or whatever else your family loves!
  • Best if eaten immediately. Apples can be prepped and stored in fridge until you make the nachos.
