Honeysuckle Simple Syrup

I don’t know about you, but when I see honeysuckle blooming along the side of the road, I know it’s officially summer time here in South Georgia.

I have so many fond memories from childhood of me and my cousins enjoying the sweet juice from the honeysuckle blooms on my Pepapa’s farm.

Honeysuckle Plant

A couple of years ago, I discovered that you can actually make a simple syrup from the honeysuckle blooms. Well, of course I had to try it!

Here’s how to make Honeysuckle Simple Syrup
Picking Off Honeysuckle Blooms

Pull off about a cup of blooms from the plant, being careful to remove any stems or leaves.

Honeysuckle Syrup Ingredients

Combine a cup of blooms with 1 cup of sugar, peels from one small orange, and 1 cup of water.

Honeysuckle Syrup Simmering

Simmer ingredients in a small sauce pan on medium heat for a few minutes.

Remove from heat and then allow to steep for an hour.

Strain and store in a glass container in the refrigerator.

Honeysuckle Simple Syrup

Don’t let summer slip away without trying honeysuckle simple syrup. Paired with lemonade or tea, it’s the perfect summer treat for a hot summer day.

Honeysuckle Syrup and Peppermint Tea

I guarantee it will bring back those sweet childhood memories for you too 🙂

If you’d like to try it in Peppermint Tea like I did, here’s my recipe.
