Fresh Ginger Simple Syrup adds a spiced kick to your cocktails. The ginger adds a burst of fresh flavor to martinis, mojitos, margaritas, and so much more.

You’ve probably used a basic simple syrup to sweeten cocktails, other non-alcoholic drinks, and even baked goods. BUT, have you tried flavoring your simple syrup? It’s a game changer for infusing flavors into whatever you use the simple syrup for.

If you’re keen on experimenting with different infusions for your simple syrup, check out the autumn spiced simple syrup for all your fall and winter cocktails and baked goods.

Simple syrups are perfect for sweetening drinks as the sugar is already dissolved in the water. When you add sugar to cold drinks, it is difficult to get it to completely dissolve. Yes, you can buy simple syrups already made, but why would you when it’s less expensive and so easy to make yourself?

FAQs:

How long can I store simple syrup?Store your simple syrup in an airtight container, such as a mason jar, for up to a month.

Ingredients for Ginger Simple Syrup:

  • Sugar: While I typically use coconut sugar in recipes, I opted for plain white sugar in this case as I didn’t want to alter the color of the simple syrup.
  • Ginger: You definitely need to use fresh ginger root in this recipe. You’ll need two good sized knobs to yield a cup of sliced ginger.
  • Water: Use equal parts water, sugar, and ginger.

Ingredient Tip:

  • There is no need to peel the ginger for use in this recipe. Just make sure that the outside skin is clean before slicing.

How to Prepare Infused Simple Syrup:

  • Add the water, sugar, and sliced ginger to a small, heavy bottomed sauce pan.
  • Heat on medium-high heat, stirring until the sugar is dissolved. Allow the mixture to come to a boil, then turn it to low, and cover with a lid.
  • Allow the simple syrup to simmer for about 15 minutes to infuse the ginger flavor.
  • Remove from heat, cool to room temperature, and remove the sliced ginger from the sauce pan.
  • Once the simple syrup is cooled, carefully pour into an airtight container, and store in the fridge fro up to a month.
Melt the sugar into the water.
Add the sliced ginger, and simmer for 15 minutes.

Recipe Tip:

  • This recipe is super easy to scale. Simply use equal parts water, sugar, and ginger to make more or less simple syrup depending on your needs.

Serving Suggestions:

  • Make your own sweet and sour mix for cocktails by mixing equal parts lemon juice, lime juice, water, and add simple syrup to taste.
  • Use it to moisten baked goods after baking, particularly layer cakes, quick breads, and muffins. Ginger simple syrup would be delicious brushed over a carrot bread loaf or pumpkin bread.
  • Mix the infused simple syrup with butter to create a glaze for topping roasted vegetables.
  • Add to homemade lemonade for sweetness and a boost of flavor.
  • Stir into sparkling water with a slice of lemon to make your own flavored soda.
  • Use to sweeten and flavor a hot toddy rather than the traditional honey.
