Apple Cider Syrup Recipe
Learn how to make apple cider syrup. This can be canned for up to a year or frozen for later. It's a delicious recipe, and it's pretty easy to make.
I use apple cider and let it simmer with spices. The recipe says to let it simmer for 5 minutes, but you can let it simmer longer to give it more depth to the flavor.
My kids love this apple syrup on pancakes and waffles. I like it on ice cream and on desserts. You can even add it to coffee or lattes for a delicious apple coffee drink.
This is a thin syrup. I don't add any thickeners to the syrup before canning. However, if you want a thicker syrup, you can open it and add some cornstarch or arrowroot powder and cook to thicken. You can use cornstarch to thicken and then freeze, but don't add it if you're going to can this apple cider syrup recipe.

Ingredients
- 6 cups apple cider
- 3 cinnamon sticks, broken up
- 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 3 whole cloves
- 1 star anise
- 5 cups sugar
- 4 cups water
- 3 cups corn syrup
- 1/4 cup lemon juice
Instructions
- Combine apple juice, cinnamon sticks, nutmeg, cloves, and star anise in a large saucepan. Simmer for 5 minutes and set aside.
- Combine the sugar and water in a medium saucepan. Heat to a boil and bring to 260 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Add the apple cider and corn syrup to the sugar syrup. Boil for 5 minutes. Remove the cinnamon sticks, whole cloves, and star anise with tongs. Add the lemon juice.
- Ladle the apple cinnamon pie syrup recipe into hot jars and leave a 1/4" headspace. Remove air bubbles and wipe rims. Place lids and rings on the jars. Process in a water bath for 10 minutes.
Tips
- You can also freeze this syrup.
