There is a big difference when you make homemade tomato sauce to one purchased from a store. The flavors melt in your mouth and healthier as well, where as the store bought just does not taste fresh. This healthy tomato and basil marinara sauce can be used over your favorite pasta. You can add it over meatballs too. It freezes well so you can make lots of it.

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup of fresh basil
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 1/4 cup of onions
  • 1/4 cup of peeled tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup of sweet pepper
  • Salt
  • Pepper

Step 1:Chop Chop

I picked basil from my garden, along with the sweet pepper, garlic and onions and finely chop everything. I use my Ninja food processor to do it all. Make sure you have it on the chop mode not puree. I would do the basil first, take it out and then do the other ingredients.

Step 2: Saute

Add the basil and all the chopped up ingredients in a pan. Saute with olive oil until slightly brown.

Step: 3 Peeled Tomatoes

Chop up the peeled tomatoes and add it to the sauteed mixture. (You can use canned peeled tomatoes and if you are really motivated buy whole tomatoes and peel them yourself

Step 4: Cook

Cook on medium heat until the peeled tomatoes blend well with the garlic mixture. Use a fork to mash the tomatoes well. Add salt and pepper to taste.

Add this sauce over fresh pasta. Top it off with fresh sliced parmesan cheese. Enjoy!
