Serendipity3’S Frrrozen Hot Chocolate

2 Servings

Serendipity3’s Frrrozen Hot Chocolate is refreshing, lush and chocolaty. It’s topped with a mountain of whipped cream and sprinkled with chocolate shavings. This frozen hot chocolate is one of the most refreshing things to have on a hot summer day.

I fell in love with this drink years ago when I tried it at Serendipity3, a restaurant in New York City. After searching around, I found a recipe from Top Secret Restaurant Recipes 3 that recreated it perfectly. I have been making my own frozen hot chocolate at home ever since.

Serve with a mountain of whipped cream and chocolate shavings for a sinfully delicious treat. Trust me, it is worth every calorie!

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup nonfat dry milk powder
  • 2 tablespoons Ghirardelli cocoa powder
  • 1 tablespoon Hershey’s cocoa powder
  • 1 tablespoon Scharffen Berger cocoa powder (see note below)
  • 1/8 tsp. salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3 cups ice
  • 2 or more cups whipped cream (I prefer homemade)
  • 1/2 ounce shavings from a semi-sweet chocolate bar
Instructions

Combine the first 6 dry ingredients in a small bowl then add to blender bowl (or add ingredients directly into the blender bowl).
Pour in milk, followed by the ice. Blend until the ice is crushed and the drink is slush consistency.
Pour into one 30-ounce or two 15-ounce goblets. Top with whipped cream and a sprinkling of shaved chocolate. Serve immediately.
Tips
  • If can’t find the Scharffen Berger cocoa, use 3 tablespoons Ghirardelli cocoa powder and 1 tablespoon Hershey’s cocoa powder.
  • To make your own chocolate shavings, use a vegetable peeler to scrape the edge of a chocolate bar.
  • Recipe is from Top Secret Restaurant Recipes 3.

I can’t find any cocoa powder except for Hersheys. Can I use just that one?

Yes you can. The combination of cocoa powders provides a more complex, deeper flavor profile, but one type of cocoa powder is still going to be delicious!
