Learn how to make breadcrumbs from bread. Not only will you save money, but you'll be able to use stale bread to reduce food waste in your home. This is easy to make, and you can make them plain or seasoned.

My kids really like to make coated chicken and pork, so we use a lot of breadcrumbs. I normally buy them from Aldi, but it's cheaper to make air fryer bread crumbs.

When I notice that the bread has gone stale, I put it in the freezer. Then when I want to make DIY breadcrumbs, I get the bag out to thaw so I can make some.

I am a rebel, so I mix my breads. I'll use store bought bread, homemade bread, and buns to make breadcrumbs.

Typically, it is cheaper to make your own breadcrumbs. The best part of learning how to make breadcrumbs from bread is that you can use already stale bread.

This not only means that you are using food you have already bought, but it also means that you are creating less waste. This is why so many are learning to make their own diy italian breadcrumbs.

Plus, learning how to make breadcrumbs at home means you can add your own seasonings and really make this recipe your own. I recommend buying high quality herbs and spices. I like Old Town Spice Shop on Etsy because they have small quantities.

You will want to store your DIY breadcrumbs in sealed containers, such as in a ziploc bag. If you have a small enough portion, you can also use a mason jar with a plastic lid or an airtight container.

Further, I recommend storing them in the fridge so as to prevent moisture from getting to them. Moisture is the biggest threat to the integrity of your breadcrumbs over time.

How to Make Air Fryer Breadcrumbs
To start making your own air fryer breadcrumbs, cut each slice of your white bread into inch long squares. You do not need to cut the crust off of the bread for this recipe.
Now, place the bread squares onto the basket of your air fryer and set to roast for six to seven minutes on 340 degrees fahrenheit. After about five minutes, you should check the bread and remove it if need be. You do not want the bread to burn, so be sure to keep an eye on it.
Now, place the baked bread slices into your blender.
Then, add in your dried thyme and smoked paprika into the blender as well. If you wish, you can use other herbs and spices of your choosing. Close the blender lid and grind in ten to fifteen second bursts.
After each burst, check on the bread crumbs to see how finely blended they are. Blend until they are to your liking. If you want to get smaller, finer breadcrumbs you will want to grind the dried bread for longer.
Now, transfer the ground up breadcrumbs into a sealable container, such as a jar. Tightly close the lid and use whenever you need breadcrumbs. I recommend storing them in the refrigerator as that will keep them from getting damp.
How to Make Breadcrumbs in the Oven
Start by slicing the bread into squares an inch of diameter. Note that you do not need to to cut the crusts off for the purposes of this recipe.
Next, place the squares of bread onto an oven safe tray. Set your oven for 300 degrees fahrenheit and bake for ten minutes, until the bread is dry and hard. Keep an eye on the bread during this process so as to prevent it from burning.
Place the oven-dried slices of bread into a blender, along with the dried thyme and smoked paprika. Close the blender lid and blend in bursts of about ten to fifteen second.
After each blending session, check to see how finely blended the crumbs are. Now, you can blend them to your liking. Remember that for dinner breadcrumbs you will want to blend them for longer.
Place the breadcrumbs into a sealed container, such as a sealed bag or mason jar. Tightly close the container and store in a cool, dry place such as your refrigerator.
How to Make Breadcrumbs With Toaster
When learning how to make breadcrumbs at home, one of the easiest ways is to use your toaster. This is also a great method if you want to learn how to make breadcrumbs fast.
To start, lightly toast your bread until it is dry, but not burnt. Allow the toasted bread to sit for twenty four hours so that it can dry longer.
Next, break the slices of toast into larger pieces to make it easier for them to blend. Add them to the blender along with your spices.
Close the lid of the blender and grind the crumbs in fifteens second bursts. The more you grind the finer your bread crumbs will be. Blend until they are to your liking.
Now, pour the breadcrumbs into a container of some kind, such as a mason jar or a sealable bag. Tightly seal the container and store somewhere that is dry. Personally, I recommend that you store bread crumbs in a refrigerator.
