Christmas Cookies From Scratch

What's better then some fresh cookies this time of year? You can get a pack from the grocery store but making them from scratch is really easy too!

Start by using a cheese grater to grate a stick of butter.

I find this method is really effective. Just watch your fingers!

Add 1/4 cup of white sugar.

Mix in 1 cup all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon baking powder,  teaspoon salt, 1 large egg, and 1 teaspoons vanilla extract

You can always add more flour if it is too sticky but its harder to take the flour out!

Mix it all together on a floured surface until the dough starts to come together.

It should be pretty combined by the end. Wrap in plastic wrap and cool in the fridge for and hour.

Roll out the dough and use cookie cutters or roll into balls if you don't have cutters. We happened to already have stars, snowmen and tree cutters.

Place each on a cooking sheet.

Make sure to give each cookie a little room.

The kiddos wanted to add some "ornaments" and "buttons" for the snow man!

Bake for 6-8 minutes at 350 degrees. They may seem a little under but otherwise they will become hard when they cool and I like my cookies under!

The kids had a fun time with this!
