A trip to the apple orchard calls for apple cider donuts, apple cider slushies, caramel apples and, of course, fresh apple picking. I'm not sure if you've ever heard this saying but, when life gives you apples, you make apple crisp!

This recipe is simple, easy and so delicious. Fresh apples spiced with cinnamon and nutmeg, and topped with a buttery, crispy crumble -- It doesn't get any more fall-inspired than this. I'll also say that, if you're someone who loves the taste of apple pie without the crust, then you need to try this recipe. I hope you try it out and enjoy!

Ingredients
For the apples
  • 2 pounds of apples, or around 5 apples
  • 2 Tbs lemon juice
  • 2 Tbs lemon zest
  • 1/3 cup of brown sugar
  • 1 Tbs cornstarch
  • 1 Tbs cinnamon (or more if you'd like)
  • pinch of nutmeg
  • Vanilla extract
For the topping
  • 3/4 cup all purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 1/4 cups old fashioned oats
  • 1/2 cup butter, cold & cubed
Instructions
For the apples
Peel and slice apples thinly.
In a bowl, add your sliced apples, lemon juice, lemon zest, brown sugar, corn starch, cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla extract, and mix until combined.
Place contents into a 7x11in. baking dish.
For the topping
In a bowl, combine flour, brown sugar and oats.
Using your hands, add in the cubed butter and mix/knead until the topping resembles wet sand.
Cover apple mixture with the topping and bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for about 45 minutes, or until the top is golden.
Let cool for about 10 minutes before enjoying!
Tips
  • If you don't have a 7x11 in. baking dish, a 8x8 in. dish works fine as well.
  • Enjoy your apple crisp with a scoop of ice cream or some whipped cream for a richer treat.
