This crock pot blueberry cobbler recipe is surprisingly good, especially for something that’s so easy to prepare! Yellow cake mix is layered with fresh blueberries or frozen blueberries and topped with a thick layer of homemade whipped cream in this easy, no-fuss fruit cobbler dessert.

There’s nothing quite like a warm, gooey blueberry cobbler. This recipe is a family favorite and always gets rave reviews. The best part about this easy dessert recipe is how shockingly delicious it tastes when you’re done. It’s just one of my favorite blueberry dessert recipes.

I love making blueberry cobbler, besides smelling heavenly, I love the color! Plus, it is fun to see how a humble cake mix can be transformed into something so special with just some frozen berries!

We picked 6 pounds of blueberries! Doesn’t look like it, right? We’ve used them in smoothies, pancakes, muffins and this Crock Pot Blueberry Cobbler recipe.

What is a Cobbler?

Blueberry cobbler is a simple dessert that consists of a cake-like crust and a sweet, dense filling made with berries.

I find that the best way to make this recipe is with frozen blueberries. This will allow the dish to cook at a higher temperature without having blueberry juices run out of the pan.

Blueberries are absolute perfection and not just because they’re delicious – their intense color makes them perfect as an ingredient on top of sweet treats like cobblers and pies. I think you will agree this is a simple recipe!

This recipe is super easy and a great way to use fruit. It’s the perfect dessert for summer parties or BBQ’s because I can turn it on a few hours before dessert time. There’s something about having a warm dessert with some cold ice cream on top that really makes you feel at home, no?

Get started by gathering your ingredients before starting on your recipe and then follow these steps below.

Ingredient List

  • 4 1/2 cups fresh or frozen blueberries
  • 1 box uncooked cake mix of your choice
  • 1/2 cup cold butter, cut into pieces

Prepare the inside of your slow cooker, either with non-stick spray or coat it with melted butter.

There’s no mixing bowl needed, this is just like an easy dump cake recipe.

Start with your fruit layer and then sprinkle the dry cake mix on top.

Top the dry ingredients with the butter pieces and give it all a good mix.

Top with more blueberries and cook on low for 3-4 hours until your delicious dessert is golden brown on top.

You are going to want to top your Blueberry Cobbler with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream!

Do I need to Refrigerate my Cobbler?

Yes. Because you are using fruit, it is a good idea to refrigerate your room temperature cobbler.

I find the easiest way to do so is to transfer my finished dessert to a casserole dish and then wrap it in plastic wrap. Or you can use an airtight container of your choice.

Do I Need to Thaw my Frozen Fruit When I make a Cobbler?

No need to thaw your frozen fruit when making your crock pot cobbler.

What Kind of Fruit Can I Substitute with?

You can use a variety of different types of fruit. Fresh fruit like fresh peach slices ( cake mix peach cobbler recipe), fresh blackberries ( blackberry cobbler) and other fresh berries and more.

You can also use a variety of canned fruits to make fruit cobblers. I have used a can of cherry pie filling and blueberry pie mix and a can of peaches.

Can I Use a Different Type of Cake Mix?

Yes! This is the easiest recipe to customize with different cake mixes. I have made this classic dessert with a chocolate cake mix, white cake mix, lemon cake mix, spice and butter pecan cake mix.
