I had quite a few over ripe bananas to use up this week so decided to get more creative with my breakfasts and came up with this quick, nutritious and delicious smoothie recipe. As a new, breastfeeding mother, this was the perfect way for me to ensure I was fuelling my body with food that would keep me going throughout the day without the effort and time required to stand and cook a breakfast.

The oats help to thicken the mixture and give the much needed carbohydrates a breastfeeding mum needs. What's more, if you are also breastfeeding, oats are actually known to boost your milk supply!

It was also perfect for the warm weather we have been having here lately as the frozen berries add a nice chill without having to use ice cubes which would dilute the overall flavour.

This recipe is super versatile and would make a great base of you wanted to experiment with different fruits of your choice!

A delicious, vibrant and refreshing way to start your day!

This simple breakfast recipe is super easy to throw together. All you need to do it throw everything into a blender!

The frozen mixture of berries I used produced a beautiful bright pink colour, but you can experiment with any fruits you desire, just be sure to use frozen for that sorbet/smoothie texture.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1 cup frozen berries
  • 1 ripe banana
  • 1 cup plant based milk (oat milk works well)
  • 1 tsp maple syrup
Instructions

Add all of the ingredients, minus the maple syrup to a blender and blitz to a smooth puree. If you find that the mixture is too thick, top up with additional oat milk.
Pour the mixture into a chilled glass, then stir in the maple syrup to finish.
Garnish with fresh fruit as desired and serve immediately.
