Red, White & Blue Sangria

Quench your thirst and kick off your summer celebrations with some Red, White and Blue Sangria, as easy to mix as it is to drink!

This is an easy beverage for summer sipping and serving, adjusting the flavors and fruit to your palate, party, and guests! It only takes five minutes to assemble in a large pitcher. You can mix it an hour to two in advance of serving.

Most sangria calls for brandy, rum or triple sec, but I used a citrus vodka for this patriotic batch. This is a very forgiving recipe, adjusting to your taste. I’ve made it with lemon/lime soda, ginger ale, and lemon seltzer. You can also mix up a refreshing mocktail version using lemonade, ginger ale and cranberry or pomegranate juice.

You’ll need 2 – 3 cups mixed berries for this batch of sangria. (I used strawberries & blueberries)

In addition to your berries you’ll need:

  • 1 bottle Pinot Grigio, or white wine of choice
  • 1/2 cup Pomegranate juice
  • 1/2 cup citrus flavored vodka (use regular vodka if you prefer)
  • 16 oz. of lemon-lime soda (regular or diet)

Method:

  • Slice strawberries and add blueberries to a large pitcher. Add wine, juice and vodka. Refrigerate until serving, 1 – 2 hours or up to 24. (Berries look & taste best if served within 1 to 2 hours).

  • Just before serving add chilled lemon-lime soda to pitcher and mix well. Fill glasses half full with ice, add sangria and fruit.
