Kumquat Margaritas for Two

Cinco de Mayo is quickly approaching, and this delicious Kumquat Margarita would be a perfect, unique cocktail to help you celebrate. My uncle grows his own kumquats in Alabama, and every year mails my grandma a big box of perfect kumquats. She shares a bunch with me, and the rest she eats fresh and makes kumquat marmalade (also very delicious!).

I was in the mood for a margarita the other night, and wondered why I couldn't use some of my fresh kumquats to make some sort of cocktail? I thought about juicing the kumquats, but they aren't very juicy, and besides, most of the flavor seems to be in the peel. So, I decided to puree the kumquats with a little water, and run the puree through a sieve to collect the bigger pieces.

The result was a delicious margarita, that was full of explosive citrus flavor! I'll definitely be making this margarita more than just for Cinco de Mayo!

Fresh, delicious, unique and easy to make!

We start with beautiful, fresh kumquats. I used just the orangest kumquats.

Cut kumquats in half and use a paring knife to remove all seeds (a bit tedious, I know, but this step is totally worth it).

Blend kumquats with a little water and strain through a sieve.

Make your delicious drinks with the kumquat purée. Cheers!

What is triple sec & simple syrup? I’m in Australia & haven’t a clue what these ingredients are.

could you make this recipe using Mango instead of cumquats?

      Robyn,

Triple sec is a strong, sweet, colorless liqueur made from dried peels of bitter and sweet oranges. Simple syrup is made from combining equal parts sugar and water, heating until the sugar incorporates into the water (sugar water). Hope that helps
