The cost of rising prices has me trying to save on groceries as much as possible every week. I don’t know about you but my family does love to have steak. And although it’s not the most budget friendly option these days, I found that the cravings can be satisfied with an easy stir fry.

You can use any kind of choice cut steak and cut them into cubes. I cut them into decent sized cubes so the satisfaction of eating steak is still there. A quick marinade and a quick stir fry ensures that the steak cubes stays tender and not overcooked. We like our steak medium rare at the most and juicy.

Ingredients
Steak marinade
  • 3 lbs sirloin steak (or any other cut of your choice), slice into 1-1.5” cubes
  • 1 tsp granulated suagr
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • lots of fresh cracked pepper
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
Stir fry
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 small onion, medium diced
  • 3 scallions, finely chopped with whites and green divided
  • 2 tbsps vegetable oil
  • 1 tbsp dark soy sauce
  • 2 tsps fish sauce
  • 2 tbsps honey
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
Instructions
Marinate beef
Take all of the beef and the marinade ingredients and mix together in a medium sized bowl. Allow to marinate for a few hours.
Cooking
When you are ready to cook, heat a frying pan over high heat. When hot, add in 1 tbsp vegetable oil. Add in the beef in a single layer and sear for a few minutes. We only want to give the cubed a quick sear to give it some color but we are not cooking it through or the beef will become tough once we toss it with the sauce.
Remove the beef cubes and set aside.
Reduce the heat to medium and add the other tbsp of oil to the pan along with the onion, white parts of the scallion and stir fry for a few minutes until the onion becomes slightly translucent. Add in the garlic and stir fry for another 30 seconds.
Toss the beef cubes back into the pan along with the dark soy sauce, fish sauce, honey, soy sauce and oyster sauce. Toss together quickly and allow the sauce to coat the beef.
Toss in the green parts of the scallion. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. Plate up immediately and serve over rice.
