The Best Caprese Salad

This salad is a classic and very simple to make. Whenever I make this for people I always add a couple more ingredients and I have had many people tell me this is the best Caprese salad that they have ever had. Personally, the best one I've had was at an authentic Italian restaurant and I am definitely not an authentic Italian restaurant.

I usually make my salad with basil in between each layer but this one time I decided to chop it up and layer on top.

The Best Caprese Salad
  • 3 ripe tomatoes (cut 1/2 inch thick)
  • 1 lb fresh mozzarella (cut 1/2 inch thick)
  • 10 leaves basil, chopped
  • 1 tbsp olive oil for drizzle
  • Salt and pepper
  • 1 tbsp balsamic glaze
  • 2 tbsp pesto sauce
The Best Caprese Salad
Layer alternating slices of tomatoes and mozzarella, adding a basil leaf between each, on a large plate or sprinkled on top
Drizzle the salad with extra-virgin olive oil and season with salt and pepper, to taste.
Top with a couple small scoops of pesto and a thin drizzle of balsamic glaze
