Nothing is more refreshing than melon during long hot days. This 3 melon salad with a hint of lime & mint is a simple recipe with a burst of flavors.

All you need is watermelon, honeydew, and cantaloupe melons plus a lime and some mint leaves. The melons have enough sweetness, which is counterbalanced with the citrus from the lime and the mint adds additional freshness and herbaciousness.

It’s a sophisticated yet simple fruit salad. It is great for entertaining or to bring to share at a pot luck. The presentation is beautiful, plus the flavors burst in your mouth. It its always a crowd pleaser.

recipe for a refreshing 3 melon salad with lime & mint

This recipe is super simple, consisting only of 5 ingredients. It also does not require any complicated tools or appliances. I do recommend using a melon baller since it ups the game of the presentation of the dish. You eat with your eyes first. I try to make dishes pretty, especially if your are sharing with guests.

ingredients

  1. small watermelon
  2. small cantaloupe melon
  3. small honeydew melon
  4. juice & zest of one lime
  5. handful of mint leaves

tools

  1. knife
  2. cutting board
  3. spoon
  4. melon baller
  5. juicer
  6. serving bowl

directions

  1. Cut the honeydew and cantaloupe in half. Scoop out the center seeds with a large spoon and use the melon baller to remove as much of the flesh as possible from both halves.
  2. Cut the watermelon in half and use the melon baller to remove flesh from one half of watermelon (since watermelon doesn’t have a vacant center from seeds it contains more flesh).
  3. Toss all melon balls into bowl. Zest the entire lime over the melon and squeeze the juice of lime over the fruit. Toss to make sure all melon is covered in citrus.
  4. Julienne mint leaves and toss over salad.

this 3 melon salad with lime & mint is super simple yet super versatile

This 3 melon salad is super versatile since you can serve it as an appetizer or as a dessert depending what you pair it with.

As an appetizer it pairs well with meats like prosciutto or serrano ham, which are both great choices for a charcuterie board. Melon also pairs great with cheeses like goat or feta cheese.

As a dessert it really can accompany so many different things. I have served it with cookies or simple cakes like angel food cake or shortcake. Also the melon salad is substantial enough to serve on it’s own as a light dessert.

Did you know there are yellow watermelons? I didn’t either, until I cut into this watermelon. At first I was so shocked I was ready to scrap the whole thing. And then I realized how pretty the color combination looked with all soft the colors.

It tastes exactly the same as red watermelon. Like they say, you learn something new every day. I love that.
