A well-known and much-loved recipe, this dish makes for easy lunch or dinner.

It barely takes any time to make and has minimal cleanup, so is a bargain in terms of taste and looks vs effort!

Pair with rice or noodles and a vegetable side dish, such as steamed bok choy lightly coated in sesame oil and soy, or a good ol' mixed vegetable stir fry. Or maybe a fried egg that has been cooked in the same pan as the chicken to soak up any remaining flavour left behind.

It's good to use chicken thighs as opposed to breasts in this case given the higher fat content and the punchier flavour of dark meat that suits the sauce mix in this recipe.

Ingredients

  • 6 pcs chicken thighs
  • 3 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • 4 tbsp soy sauce
  • 3 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • ½ tsp ground black pepper
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt if needed - adjust to taste
  • Sesame seeds (as garnish)
  • Chopped spring onion (as garnish)
Instructions

In a small bowl mix garlic, soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and black pepper. Add the chicken thighs and marinade about 5 minutes.
In a medium frying pan add the oil and the marinated chicken thighs, cook on a medium heat for about 4 minutes each side then turn to low heat. Keep turning the chicken so all sides are covered with the sauce. Cook until the chicken has browned, and the sauce has thickened.
Sprinkle with sesame seeds and chopped spring onions, serve hot with rice or fried noodles.
Tips
  • If you don't have rice vinegar you can use normal white vinegar or apple cider vinegar.
