Why Make Easy Pumpkin Waffles?

There are lots of reasons to love Easy Pumpkin Waffles! First, they’re packed with all the delicious flavors of fall. Second, they’re quick and easy to make. And third, they’re totally customizable – top them with your favorite toppings, like whipped cream, nuts, or chocolate chips. These fall waffles are sure to be a hit all season long.

What is the Difference Between Regular Pumpkin Waffles and Pumpkin Belgian Waffles ?

The main difference between regular pumpkin waffles and pumpkin Belgian waffles is the size. Pumpkin Belgian Waffles are made in a larger waffle iron, so they’re bigger and thicker than regular waffles. They’re also usually served with fruit or whipped cream, whereas regular pumpkin waffles are more often served with syrup.

You can make this easy pumpkin waffle recipe in either a traditional waffle maker or a Belgium waffle maker.

What to Serve with Pumpkin Spice Waffles

When it comes to a pumpkin spice waffle breakfast, you can serve it all by itself. It is simply delicious. If you like to round out the breakfast with a few different things, you can also serve bacon or sausage with the waffles. Ham, pork roll or scrapple work well too. Eggs are always a classic side dish to pumpkin waffles. Fruit is another great add on. You can also serve a smoothie too. If you are a pumpkin person and can not get enough, make a pumpkin cheesecake smoothie to go with it. If you need to break up the pumpkin, I love this easy, healthy berry smoothie.

Add in and Toppings for Fall Waffles

These pumpkin spice waffles are so good, they don’t need any toppings! But if you want to dress them up, here are some delicious ideas:

  • Chocolate chips or white chocolate chips
  • Caramel chips or caramel sauce
  • Nuts. Typically people like to add pecans, walnuts, almonds or hazelnuts. I recommend chopping the nuts small to make them easier to eat with the pumkpin waffles.
  • Whipped cream
  • Maple syrup
  • Powdered sugar
  • Baked Cinnamon Apples
  • Fresh fruit
  • Dried cranberries
  • A Dollop of Greek Yogurt mixed with syrup (If you want to make this low points, use sugar free syrup)
  • Apple butter
  • Cream cheese frosting

How to Prevent Soggy Waffles While Cooking for a Crowd

Making a large batch of waffles for a crowd can be tricky, because by the time everyone is ready to eat, the waffles are often cold and soggy. The best way to prevent this is to make sure you have all your toppings ready before you start cooking the waffles. That way, as soon as they come out of the waffle iron, you can top them and serve them immediately.

You can also keep the waffles warm in a 200°F oven until you’re ready to serve them. Just place them on a wire cooling rack on a baking sheet and pop them in the oven. This will help them stay crisp and prevent them from getting soggy.

How to Make Pumpkin Waffles Ahead of Time

If you want to make these waffles ahead of time, you can easily do so by freezing them. Just cook the waffles as directed, then let them cool completely. Once they’re cooled, place them on a baking sheet and freeze for about an hour

How to Store Pumpkin Waffles

Pumpkin waffles are best enjoyed fresh and warm, right out of the waffle iron. But if you have leftovers, you can store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator or freezer once they have cooled. I like to place a piece of parchment paper between the layers to prevent sticking.

How to Freeze Fluffy Pumpkin Waffles

These fluffy pumpkin waffles freeze really well! Just let them cool completely, then place them on a baking sheet in the freezer for about an hour. Once they’re frozen, you can transfer them to a freezer-safe bag or container. By freezing them this way, the waffles do not stick together and you can easily remove one at a time, similar to store bought waffles, but so much better.

How to Reheat Pumpkin Pie Waffles

To reheat, I typically reheat the pumpkin pie waffles in the toaster. This is the fastest and easiest. However, if you do not want to use the toaster or if your waffles do not fit, place the waffles on a wire rack on a baking sheet and warm in a 350°F oven for 5 to 10 minutes, or until warmed through.

Pumpkin Waffle Batter Tips

This is a pretty straightforward pumpkin waffle recipe, but here are a few tips to make the best pumpkin waffles:

Make sure to mix the dry ingredients together before adding them to the wet. This will help prevent clumps but it also makes sure that the baking powder is mixed in evenly.

Don’t overmix the batter. Mix just until everything is combined. Overmixing will result in tough waffles.

If you want extra fluffy waffles, separate the egg whites from the yolks. Whip the egg whites until stiff peaks form, then gently fold them into the batter.

If you do not have pumpkin pie spice, you can make your own. Mix together 1 tsp cinnamon, 1/2 tsp ginger, 1/8 tsp nutmeg and 1/8 tsp allspice. If you do not want to make your own pumpkin pie spice, you can also use just cinnamon to season the pumpkin waffles.

If the batter is too thin, you can add in a little more flour, about 2 -3 tablespoons. This can happen if the eggs are extra large. The batter should be thick.

Pumpkin Pie Waffle Cooking Tips

I like to use the medium high setting when cooking these waffles.

Let the waffle maker get hot before adding the cooking spray. This helps to make sure the waffles are crispy on the outside and fluffy soft on the inside.

Because these waffles have pumpkin in them, they take a little longer to get crispy on the outside.

If your waffles are not cooking evenly, make sure your waffle iron is preheated and that you are using enough batter. I usually use about 1/2 cup to 2/3 cup for each waffle.

If the first waffle comes out deflated and flat, it means that the batter is too thin.

Pumpkin Pie Waffles Variations

If you want to change up this pumpkin waffle recipe, here are a few ideas:

Add in 1/2 cup of chocolate chips or chopped nuts to the batter before cooking.

Swap out the pumpkin puree for sweet potato puree.

Make them into mini waffles

For extra pumpkin flavor, you can add in an extra 1/4 cup of pumpkin puree to the batter.

If you want a little bit of sweetness without using syrup, you can add in 1/4 cup of brown sugar to the batter.

How Many Weight Watchers Points in Pumpkin Waffles

Waffle are not known to be the lowest in points thanks to all of the carbs. If you want to make these pumpkin waffles, as the recipe is written, using lite butter and skim milk, the waffles come in at 6 points each on my Personal Plan. This is using regular brown sugar.

You can swap out the brown sugar for a brown sugar substitute and use almond milk instead of regular milk. This brings the waffles down to 4 points on my Personal Plan.

With the new personal points plan from WW, your points might be different than mine. In that case, here is the direct link to the recipe in the WW recipe builder app. You can see how many points Pumpkin Waffles are for you. This only works for WW members in the US. If you are outside of the US, you will need to enter it manually.

check step #5. You add the batter to the waffle 'iron' -- not 'mixture'.
