Homemade Pop Tarts Using Sour Dough Discard
I don't know about you, but I do not trust pop tarts! What are they made of? Sugar and chemicals? no thank you. But I will make some at home!
I started with 1/2 a cup of sourdough discard.
Then I grated a stick of butter. Yes a whole stick! Hey I never said this would be healthy! I just said it would contain real ingredients.
Then I added a cup of all purpose flour.
1/2 a teaspoon of salt.
2 table spoons of sugar.
Start mixing it all up.
If the mixture is not coming together, add 1 tablespoon of cold water.
The mixture should come together and start forming into a dough.
Use wax paper and a roller to roll out the dough into a flat sheet.
Let the wrapped dough chill in the fridge for and our or over night.
The next day, take the wax paper off and roll out the dough more on a floured surface.
Using a pizza cutter, cut the flattened dough into rectangles.
Brush the dough with an egg wash.
Then fill with what ever you like! This one was blueberry jam.
Then I got a little CRAZY and used bananas and peanut butter.
fold over and use a fork to press the sides.
Add an egg wash to the outside.
Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes.
The inside will be LAVA so make sure to let it cool before giving it to littles!
