J Dub’s Authentic Mexican Beef is full of flavor thanks to my homemade Chile sauce using dried peppers.

Don’t let the dried peppers intimidate you.

Don’t let the time to cook intimidate you either. The bulk of the cooking time is in the oven without your supervision.

The homemade Mexican sauce is super simple.

And, the beef is pull apart tender.

You should be able to find the peppers in your spice aisle or in the produce section on one of the end caps.

This is truly an authentic Mexican dish you will enjoy time and time again.

Serve with rice, beans, flour tortillas, cheese, sour cream, and some limes slices.

First, cut roast into 11/2” inch cubes
Using at least a 6 quart dutch oven, heat chicken broth to simmering.

Instructions for Beef
Add 4 T olive oil and 1 T butter to the dutch oven and melt butter.
Once the butter and oil are hot, brown beef.  You will need to brown the beef in batches to prevent overcrowding.

After you have browned all the beef, add 1 reserved tablespoon olive oil to the pot.
Next, add onions and sauté until translucent.
Add reserved 1/4 cup of broth and deglaze dutch oven.
Add garlic and sauté approximately 30 seconds.
Then add the cumin and chili powder and stir.
Place beef back into dutch oven with onion and garlic mixture.
Add strained sauce to beef mixture.
Stir to coat beef.
Bring beef to boil, then reduce to low and simmer (partially covered) for 45 minutes.
Taste sauce and add additional salt and pepper if necessary.
Preheat oven to 275 degrees Fahrenheit.
Place covered dutch oven on center rack.
Allow to cook for an additional 2 hours.
  • The longer this dish simmers in the oven, the more tender the beef will be!
