These delicious smoked burgers will quickly become a dinner time staple. They are absolutely delicious, flavourful and perfectly cooked on the grill every time.

Too busy to make this right away? Pin it for later! Add this recipe to your favorite board on Pinterest and it will be there for when you need it.

We have been making all kinds of delicious grilled recipes this summer like this Lemon Chipotle BBQ Salmon and Keto Beef Jerky.

I have to say that these smoked burgers are by far one of our favorite recipes. The combination of smoke flavor and the way that these are cooked is seriously to die for. These burgers are so delicious that the entire family keeps asking for more.

How long should burgers be smoked?

We like to smoke our burgers at 165 degrees fahrenheit for two hours or at 225 degrees for an hour if we are in a hurry. If you don’t have extra time they can be smoked at a higher temperature for a shorter period of time.

Do you flip burgers when smoking?

We do not flip the burgers while smoking them because our smoker does a great job of circulating the indirect heat and smoke.

Can you smoke hamburger meat?

Yes! And it makes the most delicious burger. Let us show you how…

If you think that these burgers looks amazing then you should check out our Beer Can Chicken Recipe! It’s our favorite way to cook chicken. So moist and delicious!

Easy smoked burgers:

Ingredients:

  • 2 lbs ground beef
  • 1/2 lb ground pork
  • 1/2 cup bbq sauce (we use this Sweet Baby Rays Hickory & Brown Suga r)
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup white onion, finely diced (optional)
  • 2 Tbsp steak spice (we use this Montreal steak spice)
  • 1 Tbsp garlic powder

Costco has the best deal on ground beef, I buy a large pack at least once a month. For best results be sure to mix this with ground pork from the grocery store.

Directions:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine all ingredients. Mix well.
  2. Form hamburger patties from the meat mixture. Tip: make the patties about 5″ in diameter and 1″ thick, they will shrink in size when cooked.
  3. Layer the round patties between sheets of parchment paper on a sheet pan for easy handling.

4. Place burgers on the Traeger smoker at 165 degrees F and allow them to smoke for two hours. Tip: this is a great time to remove the burgers and place them in an airtight container in the freezer for later use.

5. When ready to serve turn the Traeger up to 425 degrees and cook the beef patties for 5 more minutes on each side. Cook until the internal temperature reaches 160 degrees F with a meat thermometer.

Flip each burger half way through grilling to help cook the pattie thoroughly. This easy recipe makes 12 juicy burgers, perfect for serving on large burger buns.

We have this Traeger Pro 575 Pellet Grill wood pellet smoker- it has been a game changer for all of our grilling. Every single thing we make turns our perfectly delicious!

Any smoker can be used for this hamburger recipe though, we’ve made these burgers in our vertical smoker too. It uses wood chips rather than wood pellets and is much larger than the Traeger. You can see our vertical smoker in use in this Smoked Salmon Recipe post.

Smoked hamburger recipe alternatives?

Try adding to the ground beef mixture:

  • Your favorite condiments
  • Onion powder
  • Barbecue sauce
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • Dry rub

The trick to making the perfect smoked burgers is cooking them at a lower temperature for longer. These do not need high heat, low and slow helps to lock in the smoky flavor taking these to the next level.

We recently hosted a back yard bar-be-cue for friends and family and made a huge double batch of these burgers. They were a hit with everyone and quickly became a new favorite.

Kitchen essentials for grilling:

  • I love using these non-stick T-fal Frying Pans for all of my sauteing.
  • These silicone tongs are perfect for flipping and grasping.
  • This Henckel Knife is my favorite for slicing and dicing in the kitchen.
  • These grilling bags make clean up a breeze and these parchment paper bags are perfect for packaging.

You can also cook these burgers in the oven or stovetop once they have been smoked! They are just as delicious as smoking locks in that amazing flavor.

What type of hamburger are you using, 80/20, 85/15 or 90/10?

We have been a long time Traeger owner and have never smoked hamburgers, I think we have been missing out!
