There isn’t a taste that quite embodies the spirit of fall quite like apple butter. This delicious spread, made from fresh apples and spices, can easily be made in the Instant Pot. Fresh apple butter is easy to make and also serves as a wonderful and tasty gift.

Apple butter is a delicious spread that is perfect on just about any kind of bread. It’s also delicious on waffles, muffins, or on top of a big bowl of oatmeal. My kids will also eat it straight from the jar, so that’s clearly an option.

If you’re looking for another way to use up apples, then also check out my  Instant Pot Applesauce recipe. It’s just as easy and a family favorite!

Here's what you'll need:

  • 8-10 apples (any variety, but the sweeter the apple, the sweeter the butter)
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (or  substitute coconut sugar for a more blood sugar friendly version)
  • 1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp cloves (ground)
  • 3/4 tsp ginger (ground)
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 lemon, juiced

How to Make Instant Pot Apple Butter

  1. Begin by washing apples, quartering them, and removing the core. Everyone has a different method for this, so use an apple slicer, a knife, or whatever your heart desires.

2.Place cored and quartered apples in the Instant Pot (I love my 6 qt Instant Pot Duo, and it’s almost 5 years old!) along with water, sugar, and spices. Stir to coat apples with spices.

3.Set IP to Manual for 12 minutes. Allow the IP to release pressure naturally when cycle is through.

4.Open lid and stir in lemon juice.

5. Using a good quality stick blender, blend apple butter until it reaches desired consistency.

6.(Optional) After blending, if your apple butter seems thinner than you would like, set Instant Pot to saute and cook the apple butter to draw out more moisture.

7. Spoon fresh apple butter in clean jars and store in fridge or process for canning.

Store apple butter in the fridge for several weeks, use a hot water bath to can them, or freeze!
